>>> What does F. Goelo look like?...
For my envious "Admirers", who delight in circulating ersatz material and gleefully describe me as: short, fat, bald, ugly and stupid, I offer my full length naked body, wearing nothing but a familiar smirk...

In the interest of saving time, copies have already been forwarded to the SEC, CIA, FBI and Mossad to complete their files...

>>> Weather: it's mostly wind strength and direction,...
I am interested in and there are clouds patterns and shape that you eventually learn to recognize... Also, swells and their various directions can help a lot...
Instant Weather Forecasting by Allan Watts, is the Bible of those who want to interpret clouds shapes and predict weather changes...

I also use Weatherfaxes extensively from Bracknell and other stations, while you can now download pictures of the cloud cover over whatever area you navigate directly on your PC... At one point, before leaving the Canary Islands, there were some 4 Hurricanes and 1 Tropical storm, all on the same Weatherfax of the North Atlantic..

Stay away from these puppies, if you value your electronic... I was stuck in a "trough" for nearly 3 days with these cumulo-nimbus anvil shaped clouds and the wind varied from none to 45 knots in an instant, with strong microbursts (strong wind blowing vertically towards the sea), that completely overpowered the Autopilot... I ended up reefing all the sails to minimum size and powered, while slaloming around the thunderheads during the day and hoping for the best, at night...

Have you gotten to know how to predict the climate by checking the sky, checking the sun, smelling the sea water, and listening to the wind... I know fishmen can do it... what's the trick?

>>> Bng, you lose communication when it rains heavily....
or the sky is covered in thick clouds, which is another consideration to bear in mind... Actually, the key provider of Maritime Internet, is this Company...

>>> Jerome, sounds like the ideal solution for weightloss...
I used to operate a shrimping boat, for a while in North Eastern Autralia and professional fishing is definitely hardwork, with little sleep and not a lot of money to boot, when down-times, bad weather, etc... are all taken into account at year's end...
But I did it because I liked it and always got a kick out of opening the cod-end of the trawl net, to see what spewed on to the sorting table: Stonefish, sea snakes, turtles, sharks, crabs and usually some tiger prawns as well...

>>> Jerome, it's available right now...
even where I live, but no good on a boat, as you need a 6' dish... I have tested it and it works fine...

My experience on a boat(besides the occasional) was the two-weeks I was on a Salmon fishing boat up in Alaska, near Sitka. A couple of hours of sleep nightly, diesal fumes, a grumpy boss, and mega seasickness... together it resulted in my losing about 25 pounds, and being glad to be back on the ground. When we hit the fish processing plant, I got a job there instead, for the summer.
I have always longed more for the islands than the sea. You stop on some beautiful ones?
imho, Jerome
Bernard, here is the site, it's framed, so look for the menubar up top, and go to DirecPC, scroll half the way down, "DirecPC and DirecDuo, no phone line, 2 way anywhere... 400 Kbps, DirecPC Turbo Internet service."

They told me avilable in August, which has come and went. I am in line, waiting... cost is $70 per month for the two way service, unlimited use. The set-up is about $750.
imho, Jerome
>>> Bng, Internet on the High Seas...
is in the making and still rather expensive, at the moment...

Availibilty should much improve within the year and so will the prices...

>>> DD, current technology allows it...
but my guess is that one would probably wait to be anchored somewhere comfortable to do so... Sailing short-handed on long passages demands a lot of attention, particularly on a Catamaran and sleep is in short supply... In fact, you become "one-track" minded - the vessel and well-being of its crew - before anything else...
Living aboard means sailing only 10 to 20% of the time, so that leaves plenty of opportunity for play and trading, in that order, once securely anchored...
F. Goelo + + +
Is that really how it works for the satellite internet connection? Your ISP must have tons of satellites to make it work around the globe... interesting. Any more info on that...?

Ah, life on the sea.
Nowadays, you'd have a sat internet connection, and be trading from there :)
imho, Jerome
