I hunted down that Charles Osgood blurb on the buzzer/pagers..........
http://wcbs880.com/StoryFolder/story_1188237344_html
"...SANTA'S LITTLE HIGH TECH HELPERS
Here's something new at a mall in Florida, instead of having people wait in a big long line to bring their kids to see Santa Claus they’re now given a pager, so they can go about their shopping until it's their turn to see Santa.
Some restaurants have given to handing out pagers to people waiting for tables, so they can go to the bar or walk around and the maitre d' doesn’t have to go hunting for them when their table is ready. That's how Lenor Ryan got the idea. "One night, we were at a restaurant and received a pager --- and I decided at that point that we would try it that way."
We being the Pembroke Lakes Mall in Pembroke Pines Florida, where Ms. Ryan is general manager. She figured all those people waiting for hours for their kids to see Santa weren’t buying anything why not give them pagers.
She says, "At first, people question it --- like, 'Oh, you're sending me away. Can't I just stand here and wait?' And then when we explain they can go anywhere inside the mall and we'll page 'em when its their turn to see Santa, then they take it."
Oddly enough. some parents prefer to wait in line to protect their own interests. Ryan says, "Some parents feel that if they're in line, they can see if anybody gets to push in front of them or sneak into the line."
But the longer the line, the longer the wait, the more sense the pager makes.
Ryan adds, "Usually when they come back and it's been a two hour wait or so, then they're very pleased that they weren't confined to standing to a line --- and they tell us that they're happy now that they walked around the mall."
The idea is almost sure to catch on. Almost any shopping mall would rather see shoppers spending their perfectly good money rather than spend their perfectly good time waiting for Santa.
"In the past week, I've had a couple of malls call here just to see how it was going," Ryan says.
I have a contact with a TeleCom firm out west that might be interested in these developments........
Back at ya later.

BRANDMAKERS INC (BMKS.OB)
Quarterly Report (SEC form 10QSB)
Item 2. Management's Discussion and Analysis
FORWARD-LOOKING STATEMENTS
This Quarterly Report on Form 10-QSB contains forward-looking statements. For this purpose, any statements contained herein that are not statements of historical fact may be deemed forward-looking statements. Without limiting the foregoing, the words "believe," "anticipates," "plans," "expects," and similar expressions are intended to identify forward-looking statements. There are a number of important factors that could cause the Company's actual results to differ materially from those indicated by such forward-looking statements. These factors include, without limitation, changes in the regulation of the wireless communication and internet industry at either the federal and state levels, competitive pressures in the wireless communication and internet industry and the Company's response thereto, the Company's ability to obtain and retain favorable arrangements with third-party payers, the Company's ability to obtain capital in favorable terms and conditions, and general conditions in this economy.
The following discussion of the Company's results of operations and financial conditions should be read in conjunction with the Company's condensed consolidated unaudited Financial Statements listed in Part I, Item I and the notes thereto appearing elsewhere in this Form 10-QSB.
COMPARISON OF THE RESULTS OF OPERATIONS FOR THE THREE MONTHS ENDED
September 2001 and 2000.
Revenue decreased 27.2% from $1,133,775 to $824,983 for the three months ended September 30, 2001 compared to September 30, 2000. Cost of sales for the period were $434,403 versus $710,606 resulting in a gross profit of $390,580 for September 30, 2001 compared to $423,169 for September 30, 2000. Expenses for the three month period were $459,408 for 2001 versus $837,586 in 2000. Consequently, after interest expenses of $30,734, there was a loss of $99,562 for the period ended September 30, 2001 compared to a loss of $597,432 after interest expenses of $63,696 for the period ended September 30, 2000. The net loss for the period ended September 30, 2000 includes losses from discontinued operations of K.W. Leisure Ltd. of $119,319.
-
LIQUIDITY AND CAPITAL RESOURCES
Cash used in operating activities - The Company's net cash flow from operating activities resulted in deficits of $87,762 for the three-month period ended September 30, 2001 compared to a deficit of $131,865 for the same period in 2000. For the three-month period ended September 30, 2001 accounts receivable decreased by $18,721 and accounts payable increased by $69,948. Inventories decreased by $39,507 during the three-month period in 2001 as compared to an increase of $95,552 for the 2000 period. Accrued expenses increased by $8,253 during the three-month period ended September 30, 2001, while deferred revenue for WebBox sign ups decreased by $4,363 from $267,108 to $262,745. The deficit decreased significantly from $597,432 in the period ended September 30, 2000 to $99,562 in 2001 due to significantly lower operating expenses. The cost of goods sold was much lower as a percent of sales due, in part, to the low cost of WebBox sign ups during the current three month period.
Cash flow from Investing Activities- The Company's net cash used in investing activities was $20,233 for the three months ended September 30, 2001 versus $29,419 for the same period in 2000.
Cash Flow from Financing activities- The company's net cash flow from financing activities was a deficit of $86,891 for the three-month period ended September 30, 2001 versus an increase of $148,071 for the same period in 2000. During the 2001 three-month period, notes payable, long term debt and capital leases were reduced by $53,601 while net payments on the line of credit totaled $33,380.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
In a continuing effort to reduce expenses, Brandmakers employees' salaries were reduced by 20% while officers' salaries were reduced by 30% to 50%. Rental expenses were reduced by $2,000 per month during the quarter as well.
The Internet division continues the subscription program on WebBox while offering free email once per week on MailStart. WebBox subscriptions were increased on July 1, 2001 from $6 to
$10 annually. As of November 6, 2001 over 84,000 credit cards had been charged for this program. Recurring income will commence February 1, 2002 allowing for further upgrades and service features as well as additional promotional programs.
ZOOM Communications continues to phase out the competitive wide area paging and concentrate on the more profitable on-site paging systems. Server paging, guest paging, and manager paging products are all manufactured for ZOOM and sold via direct sales as well as through an extensive network of dealers and resellers. The Gift Card and Loyalty programs offer good potential as well.
The Gamosity division produces and manufactures vending machines and computerized games. Cellular phone vending machines allows for dispensing of prepaid cellular phones. Computer disk dispensing machines for floppy disks, zip disks, super disks and compact discs continue to be sold in small quantities for placement in colleges and universities.
The economic climate has been poor for many firms including Brandmakers and sales have not kept pace with expectations.

From RB :
You are taking the longer view. I got out of BMKS at 5 cents at a loss, then when the 144 selling started and when it hit 1 penny I decided it was worth a lot more than that and got back in for 300K. I still think it's worth at least 5 cents with the present business model if they continue to cut overhead. There is still some 144 stock out there left from the 14 million sold by TBF, at 12.5 cents a share. What these 144 people do will control the stock price in the short term, the current filng to sell 600K expires November 30. I think they would do better as a part of a larger company who would add value to there product line and would apreciate the 20 employees. Goeff and Joy could take whatever stock or cash they get out of it and move on to run more gaming machine startups. The other director Bob is 68 and I sure he like to get out by revovering some of the worth the company had last year. At 5 cents they would each take out a $1 million plus. The rest of the team have minimal stock and would be better off with a newer, larger company. They tried to do this once, with WSMI, but got scammed along with the rest off us.
What are the expectations for BMKS? There are two main tracks it can take :
1/ The cost cutting measures they are undertaking now
work and they control overhead and produce a profit.
This would enable them to :
a/ Sell all or part of the company at a fair
price.
b/ Go back to a growth mode with new
products and markets.
Both a/ and b/ would increase the stock price.
2/ They can not control overhead or the bottom
drops out of ZOOM, which accounts for 90% of
their sales and gross profit.
This could result in :
a/ Chapter 11.
b/ Fire sale of assets.
c/ Reverse split to attempt to bolster
stock price.
Any of the above will result in a further decline
in the stock price.
The 10QSB filing and contents leads we to bet my
money on 1/. They will control overhead and gradually
emerge from the pit they dug for themselves.
My stock price target is 5 cents by March.
No interest so far after thay made the filing deadline
The filing tomorrow should start the turn around.

Brandmakers and its CEO settle SEC charges
(UPDATE: adds SEC lawyer quotes)
WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Brandmakers Inc. (OTC BB:BMKS.OB - news) and its chief executive have settled charges that they issued false press releases, including one that allegedly said the vending-machine and coin-operated game manufacturer made a laser-like pool cue.
The Securities and Exchange Commission said on Thursday that Brandmakers, based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and CEO Geoffrey Williams, 56, agreed to cease and desist from the alleged illegal activity.
They were not fined because ``we felt that a fine was not necessary in order to resolve the case,'' SEC attorney Rich Murphy said.
Williams and Brandmakers' lawyer did not immediately return telephone calls seeking comment. Neither the executive nor the company admitted or denied any wrongdoing in settling the case.
Brandmakers' stock is currently trading for less than a penny on the Bulletin Board, down from a 52-week high of 15 cents.
The SEC claimed that on March 15, 2000, Brandmakers issued a press release claiming it exclusively made Laser Q, a pool cue that projects a red dot on a cue ball to show players where the tip of the cue will strike.
In fact, the SEC said, a company in Taiwan manufactured the product. Brandmakers had not sold any Laser Qs despite its claim in the press release that the entire May shipment was sold out, the agency said.
The press release, which Williams approved, also said Brandmakers had hoped to sell $8 million to $12 million worth of the cues in its fiscal year beginning July 1, 2000, but there was no reasonable basis from which to make that prediction, according to the SEC.
Williams also approved an Aug. 21, 2000, press release announcing that Brandmakers had reached a binding agreement to sell a controlling interest to a public company in exchange for shares in another company.
``Although Brandmakers claimed that the agreement was binding, the public company only signed a letter of intent, not a definitive agreement,'' the regulatory agency said.
Moreover, Brandmakers itself was not a part of the proposed transaction since Williams, his wife, and a third person were to tender their Brandmakers shares to the public company to complete the deal, the SEC alleged.
Williams has been CEO since he founded the company in 1992. He and his wife control 50.8 million shares, or about 41 percent of Brandmakers' stock, according to regulators.
BMKS will file their 10KSB by Friday.
The Useful Idiots
News: America closes in on bin Laden
INTRODUCING an occasional monitor of Western defeatism. The atrocities in New York and Washington brought out some elevated emotions in Britain. But uglier sentiments are also being voiced.
Many in the Left-wing press and the BBC are beginning to take the line that the attack was somehow the fault of Americans themselves. "American bond traders, you might say, are as innocent and undeserving of terror as Vietnamese or Iraqi peasants," a New Statesman editorial read. "Well, yes and no." After all, the Americans helped to bring the calamity on themselves, thinks the paper, since "they preferred George Bush to Al Gore and both to Ralph Nader". In yesterday's Mail on Sunday, Suzanne Moore blamed terrorism on US foreign policy, and on the country's "gas-guzzling", "complacency" and "spiritual barrenness".
The day after the massacre, the Guardian ran several opinion pieces that linked the attack with "global injustices" and "world poverty", as well as an article by Labour's George Galloway, arguing that in much of the world "people will consider the US to have had to swallow its own medicine". The next day, no fewer than three opinion columns - one of them headlined, "They can't see why they are hated" - laid into American "arrogance". A fourth, by Hugo Young, attacked the US, albeit in more measured tones, for its isolationism. (Thus Americans are condemned if they take up their global responsibilities, and equally condemned if they don't.)
Underlying almost all these articles is a common refrain: that the outrage should persuade the US to change its foreign policy, and that Britain should play no part in any retaliation. Or, as Saddam Hussein argued on Saturday, that the West should display "common sense, and not force". In taking the same line, the useful idiots of the liberal Left are acting like proxies for those who hate the West and everything it represents. We'll keep you posted on them.
FYI:
Recent WebBox Outages
You may have noticed WebBox responding slowly or behaving strangely over the past week. We'd like to offer our apologies for the recent problems. We've already taken necessary steps to get WebBox reliability back to the way it was, and are doing our best to improve the service further.
Outage Summary
The early morning hours on Sunday, August 12:
Requests to www.webbox.com would not be answered in a timely fashion, or requests would not be answered at all. Most users probably received a "This Page Cannot be Displayed" error message.
The Mornings of Wednesday, August 15 and Thursday, August 16:
WebBox ran out of general storage space. Users would encounter a cryptic error message, displayed below.
"WebBox error '800a9c68'
Application-defined or object-defined error
/wbwc/webbox.asp, line 13"
The morning of Friday, August 17:
Our connection to the rest of the Internet was disrupted for a three-hour period. WebBox essentially disappeared from the Internet for these three hours. Many other web sites in the Sacramento, California area were affected.
Again, we'd like to express our apologies. There have been more serious outages in this past week than there have been since WebBox became a fee-based service.
Regards,
The WebBox Staff

news :
Important WebBox Announcement
The fee for use of WebBox will soon be increased to $10 (Ten US Dollars) per year. We feel this rate increase is justified, as we are substantially upgrading our "People" and "Calendar" sections of WebBox. Also, we will be implementing PDA (both Palm Desktop and Outlook) synchronization features. We will add the synchronization features to the "Configuration" section of WebBox.
When will the rate increase take effect?
The rate increase will take effect on July 1, 2001. To find out how this affects current members, please read on.
How does this affect existing WebBox customers?
You are not obligated to pay any extra fees. However, should you choose to renew your membership with WebBox upon the one year anniversary date, the fee will be $10 (US) instead of the previous rate of $6 (US). If you have any questions about payment for WebBox, which are not discussed here, please direct your questions to the WebBox Billing Department

Cost of 'free' Web mail soars when frustration spikes
by Charles Bermant
Special to the Seattle Times
Web mail is a great idea that hasn't yet reached its potential. Free services like Yahoo! and Hotmail throw up a lot of obstacles (where do you get tech support?) and you essentially get what you pay for.
So anyone who seeks the convenience of universal retrieval has to make some unwelcome compromises - including the inability to access mail from your main mailbox without instituting a forwarding scheme.
Things have just gotten a little better. MailStart,
http://www.mailstart.com provides instant Web Mail service for the masses. It asks for your e-mail address and password, then searches for the server name and retrieves the mail. You can then answer messages or send new ones, which do not append little commercial plugs for the service.
Aside from the basic service, you can sign up for a "Web Box," which adds several common e-mail features along with file storage. Or you can pay a monthly fee for fax service, virus scanning and increased security.
It's not an entirely flawless system. MailStart won't work with MSN or with some firewalls. As security needs change, your mail operator may add features that could interfere with checking your mail. And the response time isn't exactly swift.
I sent a press query about the service one afternoon, 24 hours later I was still waiting. So while MailStart offers a unique service - the ability to check your main mailbox without forwarding - there is still not a lot you can do if it doesn't work. Again, it's a case of "you get what you pay for."
But MailStart still qualifies as a keeper, a URL worth writing down, carrying around, and using if you ever pass a live browser while on the road.
Attaching a Web Mail component to an existing mailbox can also act as a spam filter. If you don't set your mail for automatic retrieval, you can log on to Web Mail and select messages to answer or delete before actually retrieving messages to the hard drive.
Furthermore, a Web Mail service that includes storage or folders can increase convenience. Before a trip just e-mail yourself needed files along with a list of cyber cafes, and leave the laptop at home.
Many Internet service providers (ISPs) now offer a Web Mail
component, often as part of their service package. Perhaps your ISP has added this option and you can add it quickly and simply. Otherwise, those choosing a new provider should make sure Web Mail is part of the package.
Ironically, this is one area where the oft-maligned America Online leads the pack. AOL Mail has always been Web-based, so people with an AOL account don't need to do a darn thing in order to stay ahead.
Charles Bermant's advice on e-mail appears weekly. If you
have questions or suggestions, you can contact him, by
e-mail, at ptech@seatimes.com. Type "Inbox" in the subject
field.
