Astrotech’s BreathTest-1000 Confirmed to Detect Lung Disease Metabolites at Parts Per Billion
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Astrotech Corporation [NASDAQ: ASTC] announced that the BreathTest-1000™ lung disease screening device that is under development detects a known metabolite that is associated with lung diseases at very low parts per billion (ppb) concentrations. On March 25, the Company announced that it is working on developing the BreathTest-1000™ to detect volatile organic compound metabolites present in lung diseases such as the Coronavirus (“COVID-19”) and pneumonia.
“The Company just reached a milestone in its vision of providing what it believes to be a highly accurate field instrument that, subject to applicable regulatory approval, may provide lung disease testing worldwide. Today’s news is exciting because it accelerates the development process of the BreathTest-1000™ and we believe gets us closer to joining the front-line in the fight against lung diseases, such as COVID-19,” stated Thomas B. Pickens III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Astrotech Corporation.
“The Company was able to move quickly in the development of the BreathTest-1000™ because the core mass spectrometry technology it utilizes has been fully commercialized and deployed for explosives trace detection. Our goal is to satisfy all regulatory requirements for the BreathTest-1000™ as rapidly as possible once the necessary application developments are completed. We believe that few, if any, changes will need to be made to the underlying technology. We plan to devote our efforts towards developing a simple and consistent sample introduction system,” Mr. Pickens concluded.

Good trade the first time, bad trade the second time around.
Offering close for measly 300,000 shares for a direct offering to institutional holders, if this closes above 5.10, it would imply that the offering has officially closed. I am inclined to believe there is going to be some partnership agreement and contracts soon, easy 10 dollars from here.
Nice kick save ASTC, prob issue more shares now. Barely compliant anyways.

The company said the BreathTest-1000 is under development to screen for volatile organic compound metabolites found in a person's breath that could indicate they may have an infection, including Covid-19 or the resulting disease, pneumonia.
The Astrotech mass spectrometry technology was designed to be fast and easy to use for air quality monitoring and trace detection of chemical warfare agents, explosives, and narcotics. The company said it believes that the technology can be designed as a field-deployed instrument used at drive-up testing facilities to test for the VOCs found in the breath of Covid-19 and pneumonia infected patients.
The company said it will be launching a new subsidiary company, BreathTech Corp.

Astrotech Reports Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2020 Financial Results
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb 13, 2020--
Astrotech Corporation (NASDAQ: ASTC) reported its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2020, which ended December 31, 2019.
Fiscal 2020 has been pivotal for the Company. This quarter, 1 st Detect sold its first units of the TRACER 1000™ explosives trace detector (ETD) to a global shipping and logistics company. In addition, we have completed numerous domestic and international product demonstrations and field trials where the TRACER 1000 outperformed incumbent ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) ETDs. Among these demonstrations was a field trial with Finland’s Helsinki International Airport and Finavia, one of the world’s most technologically advanced airport operators. The Finavia case study is available on our website at https://www.1stdetect.com/finavia-cs/ and demonstrates that the TRACER 1000 outperforms the IMS-ETDs on a head-to-head comparison. In addition, 1 st Detect was selected by the TSA’s Innovation Task Force to conduct live screenings at Miami International Airport, which was completed in November. Results again showed that the TRACER 1000 outperformed IMS-ETDs.
The Company also responded to a number of inquiries from the growing hemp and cannabis market by launching AgLAB Inc. (formerly AG-TECH). With minimal additional development, the Company’s versatile platform mass spectrometry technology is being designed to detect the presence of pesticides in hemp and cannabis. Ideally suited for this market, the AgLAB-1000 can detect pesticides on plant material and during the oil extraction and distillation process. We believe there are currently no other ruggedized instruments in the field that can detect pesticides at parts per billion (ppb) in real-time.
In addition, Thomas B. Pickens, the Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, invested an additional $1 million subsequent to the end of the quarter.
“We have reached an exciting phase in our company,” stated Pickens. “1 st Detect completed its first commercial sales with more anticipated sales on the horizon, we continue to outperform our competition in field trials, and our versatile platform technology has a green field of opportunity in the emerging and high-growth hemp and cannabis industry. My continued financial support will help fund working capital and operating expenses as we develop both markets.”

By Gregory Wallace
A government watchdog warned Thursday that some airport security screening equipment may not be keeping pace with current threats and remaining effective.
The Government Accountability Office, a watchdog arm of Congress, reported that some devices used by the Transportation Security Administration are no longer up to the job due to lapses in maintenance and inspections.
It also found the time required for the government and private companies to develop and improve screening technology means it can take the agency years to put in place screening devices that meet its own improved standards.
The most outdated example it provided was for scanning bottled liquids. GAO said the current technology in use meets standards developed in 2006, but that the agency developed updated standards in 2012 and 2017.
"Officials said they were working with manufacturers to develop new technologies," GAO reported. "In other cases they were in the process of deploying new technologies that meet these standards."
In some cases, the report said, the problem is that TSA has identified a need but the technology has not yet caught up. In other cases, the agency is preparing to deploy new devices and so does not deploy a more incremental update, such as a software improvement.
It also found that lapses in maintenance and inspections have reduced the efficacy of some TSA devices. That meant some equipment for finding explosives "no longer met detection requirements -- either the required probability of detection for certain explosives or the required rate for false alarm, or both."
TSA told GAO it has worked to improve maintenance and believes that its multiple different types of screenings will prevent shortfalls.
"Officials noted that TSA uses a layered security approach at airports, so if one layer should fail -- such as a deployed technology -- the agency can still rely on other security measures among the various layers of security to detect threats," the report said.
TSA did not respond to requests for comment on the report, but it told GAO in a memo that it agrees with the watchdog's five recommendations for improvement.

Astrotech Corporation (NASDAQ: ASTC) announced today that its 1st Detect subsidiary has received a Gold Award for its TRACER 1000 explosives trace detector (ETD) in the Best CBRNE Detection System category at American Security Today’s ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards program.
“We are honored and humbled to receive the award, as it is a recognition of our core philosophy of differentiation through innovation,” said Raj Mellacheruvu, Chief Executive Officer of 1st Detect. “It has long been known that mass spectrometry is the superior technology for detecting explosives. We have solved the ease of use and ruggedness challenges of traditional mass spectrometry and we now have instruments deployed and in service throughout Europe. In addition, with our near zero false alarms, our instruments cost less than the competing technology and we are quickly becoming recognized as technological leaders in the industry.”
The Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards, now in its fifth year, is the preeminent U.S. Homeland Security Awards Program, highlighting the most cutting-edge and forward-thinking security solutions coming onto the market today. The program is specifically designed to honor distinguished government and vendor solutions that deliver enhanced value, benefit and intelligence to end users in a variety of government, homeland security, enterprise and public safety vertical markets.
“Today, the United States is increasingly focusing on protecting public spaces, as well as IT/cybersecurity networks, and they are calling on innovative companies like 1st Detect to help them do so,” according to Tammy Waitt, co-founder and editorial director of American Security Today. “‘ASTORS’ nominations are evaluated on their technical innovation, interoperability, specific impact within the category, overall impact to the industry, relatability to other industry technologies and application feasibility outside of the industry.”
The TRACER 1000 is the only certified ETD that uses mass spectrometry, the world’s gold standard instrumentation used to identify complex chemical compounds. Checkpoint and cargo certification was received from the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) enabling TRACER 1000 sales in Europe and much of the rest of the world. Additionally, on September 9, 2020, the TRACER 1000 passed the non-detection testing of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Air Cargo Screening Technology Qualification Test (ACSQT). Upon successful completion of detection testing, which is the next and final phase, the TRACER 1000 will be added to the Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL) as an “approved” ETD for sales to the cargo screening market within the United States.
“After many years of hard work, innovation and investment, we are poised for continued growth in the security industry which will be followed by product introductions in the fields of agriculture and medicine. This is an exciting time as we begin our scale cycle and we are pleased to have our superior technology be recognized by a leading voice in the security industry,” concluded Mellacheruvu.
