2 things..
1.figured out how to use 10 second delay timer on my camera..to take a self picture..cool!
2.neigborhood kids with trail bikes discovered my hill on the range while I was at work one day..that's cool though..
them clearing leaves from the ground makes for good walking..
leaves on a steep grade make for butt busting if you ain't careful..LOL..
some 9mm leftovers below the plate..
got this 20lb 1" thick steel plate at 60yards
swinging pretty good with repeated shots from Bushmaster M-4..
hits with 9mm pistol wouldn't hardly move it..
just knocked some paint off..LOL..
paint can shot with 9mm awhile back..wondered where it went..
it dissappeared at the shot..
didn't see it till today..was off in woods, edge of trail..
shot 22 pistol a little this evening..
mostly at 25 yard swinger..just knocks the paint off mostly..
gallon jug ..half full..
busted concrete block where it was sitting..
pattern of concrete block was formed in bottom of jug..
that's some pretty good explosive downward pressure!
2 gallon sprayer..pretty tough hard plastic..
I noticed an old intact 2 gallon weed sprayer out behind
the barn the other day..
will dig out deer rifle again and try to get some explosive pictures
later today..hehe..
got some initial testing done on my reloads..
was windy the day I did the testing so I half zeroed gun in on 60 yard targets just to see the potential.
the Remington brand bullet..the cheapest..was the worst..you get what you pay for..Remington stamps out millions and probably not overly concerned about tack driving accuracy since making GUNS is their main business. Straight up BULLET manufacturers like Sierra, Hornady, Speer, Nosler and others probably have better quality control.
The BLITZ Sierra bullet I tested did fairly well considering it's ultra-ultra-thin jacket and I'm shooting it at least 2x the speed it was designed for..recommended max speed is 1350 fps (feet per second)..not much more than a .22long rifle..I'm shooting ~3000 fps..bullet it probably literally near molten lead at those speeds..
The Hornady bullet did the best..I notice its sidewalls are flatter for a longer distance making for more 'bearing surface' in the riflings..see picture..also in years past I've had good overall performance with Hornady bullets..accuracy and the fact that their jacket walls are internally scored whereby when they hit something they mushroom and peel back like a bannana..good killing power.
I expect to shoot better after I get accustomed to the Bushmaster rather hard trigger pull..all in all..not bad though for 11.5inch automatic rifle..
Icon..oh buddy!..man..that is a bummer about that
gun show..
next gun show I go to around here..(Chattanooga, TN)
(Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center..Camp Jordan Arena..
and the Shriners usually have a very good one..)
I'll take some pics and post..
Heck..there is as much buying, selling, trading
outside as there is going on on the inside..hehe..
You can find some good deals..
Dave,
Thanks for the offer, might take you up on that some time.
I live in a very small town, though, so I doubt it would yield much.
Appreciate the kind words about the Chartstalker board.
Just wish the market would behave better, sowe’d have more and better looking charts.
Started to post a link here about the NRA meeting and exhibit coming up in April in Houston,
but on closer inspection, it looks like they are not able to sell any firearms or ammo at the exhibit hall,
but you can talk discuss them and handle them.
Now that hardly seems worth the trouble, does it.????
Here is the link anyway, FWIW...
http://www.nraam.org/
hope it works for ya
it is funny (me thinks anyway)
Ray..i clicked on your link..
still twittlin' my thumbs..slow ass dial up..

I just came in from shooting awhile ago..a bit windy
but that's OK.
pretty well pleased with accuracy of shorty Bushmaster M-4..
flawless operation too..
kind of had my doubts a bit with 11.5 inch barrel and having to shoot full length sized cases, from an automatic no less...but it did OK..
(along as I don't try to hit a hummingbird at 200yards..lol..)
son took my camera on fishing trip but am saving targets and I'll post some pics of groups soon..
Well thank you Iconclassic..if anything else I can help
you with just yell..
I subscribe to Keyhole too..I can post a pic of your area if you'd like..
alot of places on Keyhole are not hi-definition though..
post here or PM me or whatever..
BTW..I notice you post alot on Chartstalker board..
I lurk on it occasionally..a good board..
a good chart really gets our attention over here too..
:)
feel free to post over here anytime..
Good day to you dave,
Nice board you have here,
Lurked a little last weekend,
And picked up on the terraserver link you put in one of your early posts,
Really cool link and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it.
Sent it to everyone in the family,
so I thought I would come back and just say thank you for posting it!
a .22 long rifle barely knocks the paint off
this plate of steel at 60 yards..
but it is one helluva plate...hehe..weighs about 20lbs I'd say..
60 yard set-up with the 75 yrd swinger in
background, straight up the hill..
not got to test my reloads yet..weather and
making money on stocks..
so that's ok..
I'll git-r-done soon!
Great article - California Dreaming: Another Nightmare for Liberty http://www.lewrockwell.com/gaddy/gaddy14.html
going to be nice outside today..plan on accuracy testing
some different bullets in a Bushmaster .223 M-4 style
guns tend to shoot much better with a particular bullet and powder..
gotta find out which one..
got some loaded with Remington, Sierra, and Hornady bullets..
2 different kinds of powder..Accurate 2230 and Hodgdon 322
Happiness is a black cloud of crow feathers floating down..
200yards away..
:)
got lucky..hehe..eom
oh ok...great shot!
camera I mean..hehe
Dave Jr. came by..he shot my gun, I was doing the
camera thing..
Haaa....
poor milk..lol
who took the picture?
Did you dave?
one hand camera and the other hand shot gun?
Capt..I probably have more shots of blowing up stuff
over here in the future..stay tuned..LOL
I think that is what my Olympus shoots at!! haven't tired it yet, but great shots you got, ha pun intended!!!
Capt..thanks!..16 multi-shot mode worked good..
only 3 pics per 2 seconds but, luckily, camera clicked a pic at about the right time..
:)
Haaaaaa NICE Dave!!!
Some milk shake! lol
Found a out-of-date un-opened gallon of milk in refrigerator..
hmm..what to do with it..shoot it is a good idea to me..
blow the soot out of my Remington #7 .308 deer rifle!
forgot about downward pressure..blew nice size hole in the ground too..(ground soft from recent rain)
Hmm..need to rummage around work for some fresh plywood..
or boards..lol..
100yd frame close up
post 30..hmm..Range pic with text showing box with red X..
more than one way to skin a cat..
Close up of a target frame..complete with SWINGER target..
3/8ths steel plate..
all that's left to do now is dig post holes or sledge hammer it
into the ground about a foot..
2foot X 3foot plywood backer board is slid down in grooves, basically just a friction fit..
ah, keep forgetting about the wonders of the internet..
just a thumbsized clean hole straight thru him..
12ga. slug
.308 Winchester
Here's a little thing I done to a holster
that made a world of difference..
on a Safari-land thumbreak holster for my Sig226..
man..it didn't want to come OUT of holster at all..
it fit TOO GOOD..it didn't fit it like a glove..
heck, it fit it like a VISE..
dang near took both hands to yank it out!
I looked like Barney Fife trying to get it out..LOL..
I added a very small washer, to serve as a 'spacer', about the thickness of a dime, to where bottom of holster is bolted/fastened together..
comes out super slick and quick now..just FYI..
It's all in the bullet..IMO..
I've got a whole cigar box full of before and after bullets (different calibers..rifle and pistol) where I used to do alot of bullet expansion/penetration testing.
I mostly just used a stacks of water soaked phone books tied together..not flesh and bone but it'll work..LOL..easy to recover them too.
Was out there puttering around in my building tonight I picked out two random examples..
a 12guage shotgun slug (.700) vesus a 44magnum pistol bullet(.429)..
that rose petal jacket of this Remington bullet allow it to really open up..not to mention the hollow point design..
of course the 1oz slug pentetrated more phone books..but not that much more..it's pushing against a bigger area..
I've only shot one buck with a shotgun slug..he ran about 50yards before he politely keeled over..just a thumbsized clean hole straight thru him..unlike other deer I've shot with hi-powered rifles that went down on the spot (or within a 10 yard circle)..who had a small hole going in and a big hole coming out..
just fyi..fwiw..
PS..I use Nosler partition bullets when hunting deer..
more on them later..they're high dollar but they do exactly like they're supposed too..
mushroom AND hold together for deep penetration..
Here's a heavy buck I snapped during vacation last year..
of course you always see them when you don't have a gun and/or
it's not huntin' season..(me anyways..lol)
rather than doing all that posting over again,
I'll just put a link to my other board..
