Stop loss is up to you guys, whether it's 3% 5% or if you are a long term swing trader, you can set trailing stop loss. For me, I go with my own 8/21 MA cross and rules
haha.. sorry.. progress tracker is at my office and i don't have it with me. I will try to come up with one tomorrow. Thanks for the patience.
now that would be nice! glt/us
Lang have you made one of those progress trackers yet. I think i may do a 20k to 100k challenge in 60 days.

Sorry. Hers.
Hers...but thanks. :)
His example for trailing stop loss is right on. I only use it when i am not going to be around for a period of time. I usually just stick with normal stops for longer term plays.
When I have too many stocks I will use a trailing dollar amount on a stock that are questionable, but low on my priority list for watching. (Right now I have 26 open positions I'm watching...too many!) To be honest, most times I would make out better just selling it at the price it is at when I set the stop.
Since watching my portfolio is my full time job now, I usually just keep up with my stocks current support and resistance points, set alerts on my Ameritrade Command center, and then sell or not as I choose. Time of day and level two can cause me to wait it out rather than sell on a dip sometimes.
I'm not a big fan of the trailing stop loss for day trading, but it was helpful when I was working full time and just investing.
THanks for the explanation! Which one do you use the most?
You can set a trailing stop in most accounts, by dollar amount or percentage.
Round number to make it simple...10% stop loss on a $10.00 stock is $1.00. A regular stop loss would set at 9.00 and never sell unless the stock dropped to 9.00. On a trailing stop it follows the stock price. $11.00 = 1.10 stop = stop at 9.90...$12.00 = 1.20 stop = stop at 10.80 etc...
Using a dollar trailing stop would give you $10 price stop at 9, $11.00 price stop at 10. etc.
The problem with an automatic trailing stop is that sometimes MM's will push a stock down to stop you out.
The stop follows the stock up, but not down. So if you had a 1.00 trailing stop, and stock went from $10 to $15 then started falling, it would stop out at $14.00. A percentage stop of 10% wouldn't stop out until $13.50. That could be good or bad...
Can you introduce me to that idea? U know i play option mostly and I don't know how to do trailing stops on stocks or whatsoever. Can you please explain? Stop vs Stop Limit vs Trailing Stop?
