Adobe Flips Like An Acrobat

Leading software giant Adobe Systems Inc(NASDAQ:ADBE) is coming under heavy selling pressure since the opening bell. Earlier today, ADBE stock was downgraded to a Hold from Buy at Deutsche Bank. The drop in the stock is now about 2.80 percent. Traders and investors should note that this coming Friday is options expiration for the month of October and many stocks will get hit and benefit by countless upgrades and downgrades that will occur this week. Unfortunately, ADBE stock was downgraded today and shareholders are feeling the pain of the decline. Traders and investors should now watch for daily chart support in ADBE around the $146.85 level. Please remember, daily chart support level are usually good for three to five trading days.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Adobe Systems Inc. on Tuesday reported that its first-quarter profit rose 80 percent as more subscribers signed up for its newer cloud products.

But the company's outlook for its current quarter fell short of Wall Street expectations and its stock dipped in extended trading.

Earnings for the three months through Feb. 27 came to $84.9 million, or 17 cents per share. That was up from $47 million, or 9 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted for one-time items, the maker of Photoshop and Illustrator software said profit came to 44 cents per share in the latest quarter, beating Wall Street expectations.

The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 39 cents per share.

I just do not see how people will pay for their services either. At some point, the other operating systems will have their own rendition of their products in my opinion.

Its time to sell Adobe.

The plan to get everyone on the creative cloud is failing. Adobe is saying that subscribers are up they are only up at the promotion price. Even at that price many are leaving the cloud. At 50 or 60 a month most will leave. Those who will stay are die hard power users that need both the Video and Web tools. That is not a growing number it is fixed. Adobe has pitched this as if everyone is going to all of the sudden pay 50 a month. Only professional designers will pay. Second they want 20 or 30 a moth for students that is beyond what students are willing to pay. Adobe should give it too schools.. If you look at the PE of 31 and that Q1 is down to .13 from .39 year over year. Well it does not take a much to see that this is not a growth story. The cloud is created out of panic because Adobe Finds itself unable to lure new users into its high priced products. So it offers a lease model that is twice the price of owning. I say get out while you can the party is over!
Disclosure I am a film producer who uses Adobe products as well as Apple and others. I attend the trade shows, as a consumer and advisor.

I think it will be interesting whats going to happen now that Jobs is dead. Obviously the best choice would be adobe.It could open up a lot of doors to apple but I think a lot of company's are looking at adobe.

There has been a great deal of speculation that Apple (AAPL) could look to make one or more acquisitions, after Apple CEO Steve Jobs said last week that the company believes it has "strategic opportunities," according to the Financial Times. Among the smaller companies mentioned as possible Apple targets are Akamai (AKAM), whose infrastructure-rich content delivery network could help Apple, according to some analysts, the newspaper reported. Arm Holdings (ARMH), whose chip design formed the basis for the A4 microchip used in several Apple products, is also seen as a possible Apple target, but graphics chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) is viewed as a more likely choice for Steve Jobs. It is also rumored that Apple could acquire Rovi (ROVI), which licensed intellectual property related to Internet TV to the technology giant, or Adobe (ADBE), which could allow Apple's iPhone to compete more effectively with phones featuring Google's (GOOG) Android operating system. Finally, Disney (DIS) and Facebook are the larger companies seen as possible Apple targets.
