Wikis are collaborative. Users enter and update information and organize it in the way they see fit. Others may come behind them and organize it differently. It's part of a page's evolution.
All of the edit history is there by clicking View History on a page. History can bee seen by either version or a differential between two versions.
However, if someone wants to maintain subjective history on the current page, they would need to organize and maintain it that way.
Wiki is as Wiki does... and vice versa.
I think its a really interesting concept. Thanks guys, for giving it a shot. Will be fascinating to see how it goes...
I'm sure ADVFN isn't expecting it will be magically exempt from the sorts of issues that already arise on the "regular" IHub...
It seems to me that it is kind of early to be throwing any rocks.
I think it is going to prove widely and wildly useful to have there be an openly editable resource like this... that is also not a one sided (which ever side that is) screed or a patently manipulated propaganda treatment. Will be interesting to see how the "controls" evolve to preserve that benefit.
It might be useful to consider going out of the way to find a couple of pages to launch early on that will include a few more widely held big company issues... and a couple of issues that are already well known and wildly controversial...
Two benefits in that... One is the potential audience, of course. The other is working on getting a handle on the need for dealing with the inevitable bits of controversy early... by embracing a controlled quantity of it early.
How should the Wiki treat the need that will arise to have pages that are subjects related to some combination of companies ? Say, an issue page for a dispute between companies, or a discussion of the AT&T T-Mobile merger ?
Thanks, again, for launching it...
If the answer is "more" history vs. little to none...
Then it might be useful to look at how the "page formats" you end up with will structure the linkages that will exist with and between individuals and companies.
Look at what others use ?
Here's a random example :
http://infoventure.tsx.com/TSXVenture/TSXVentureHttpController?GetPage=PersonSummary&PO_ID=47087&HC_FLAG1=on&HC_FLAG2=on
The TSX tool is really useful...
I'd love having a similar utility that worked for other markets... and I bet it would be a driver of traffic. How functional will it be in a wiki environment, if solid history is easily editable by those who are its subjects ? Hmmmm.
I can see one issue, already... that perhaps you've already addressed as a policy ?
Things change. Hopefully people will keep up with change to keep the pages current, but, when change happens, either old things disappear, or else they become a part of history...
Archived page data, vs current information ?
Lists of former officers, accountants, etc ?
How much legacy data will there be, and how will it be organized both to make it useful, and to prevent its existence from conflicting with current data ?
Just seems one of those things that will probably require some top down standardization in order to preserve common utility.
Hi Shelly
I should have seperated what I was talking about better.
>>>>
Ok, someone is going to have to correct me if I get this wrong. The wiki creates that info box that I think you're talking about automatically by the symbols that you use. <<<<<
I was talking about putting a standard TABLE OF CONTENTS on every page so everyone follows the same format. Then everyone would have all the typical info in the same order.
Toofuzzy
Yes I was referring to the table of contents
I thought it would be good if everyone follows the same format.
By the way, I ain't doing this so don't bother to explain it to me.
I was just suggesting so there is some consistency.
Toofuzzy
Shelly; Hi! Sounds interesting.. Anything common with "wikileaks"?
That is cool :)

I'm on the wrong computer right now. What I'll do is tidy up a "Copy/Paste" thing someone can use. "With insert here jargon".
As for the other question, for us to access realtime charts as a shortcut. There would be some widget needed like how things jump to the forums with USOTC:GRDO.
Like
{[Chart:3mo:hour:GRDO}}

i used ihbigblock cause I don't know what you call that block of information on the qoute screen with all the data points.
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=squote&symbol=grdo
I could be wrong but I think Toofuzzy was referencing the Table of Contents box.
About the InfoBox on wiki pages:
You have to copy/paste in the infobox code to the top of the page, then substitute values.
Here's one with sample info. The Blue parts should be replaced or left blank. In this case there are multiple tickers that apply.
USOTC

Here's how you set a category for the page:

You can have more than one.
There is no way to pre-populate that page - it's a standard wiki.
Ok, someone is going to have to correct me if I get this wrong. The wiki creates that info box that I think you're talking about automatically by the symbols that you use.
Go here which is the edit page:
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/index.php?title=Guard_Dog&action=edit
The very top part you see Category: Retail is creating the box on the right. See on the actual page that the information below that is actually the top of the page?
This line in the Edit window is actually telling the wiki to put it into a table of contents:
Business Description
The == on either side of the phrase is what makes it do that.
So if you want to use those categories on your page then what I would do is click on the link to create a wiki then immediately type in this (or copy/paste from here):
Business Description
History
Products and Services
Culture
Executives
Additional Information
Forward Looking
References
The sub categories are created by adding another =. So, under Executives for example you would do === President === and it would auto format under that.
Then I would populate the information within each category.
If someone tries copying/pasting the above into the wiki and it's a good template, I can add it to the iBox.
Hope it wasn't too confusing. :)
Look at this one (in Edit mode) to see how to add a chart to the InfoBox.
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/Guard_Dog
Hi Shelly
>>> I don't know if it would be intuitive for people at this point to provide the link to the ADVFN wiki. Hmmmm... <<<
That is what I figured but at some point I would want a direct link. I had a bit of trouble finding it and when I followed a link to a particular stock I had to hunt around to follow the link to the main board instead of back to INVESTORSHUB which was the top link on the left (on the ADVFN site).
If there was a prepopulated navigation (see "contents" box for GUARD DOG ) when someone started a page that would make it consistent for everyone. (the first example you had Guard Dog was excellent) Then they would just fill in the info in that order.
Also I would like to see 10 years earnings, one year quarterly earnings,10 year dividend history, and 10 year stock price high, low, close (for year not daily )
Toofuzzy
How to: Wikilink the Executives
You may wonder how you can make your page a little more dynamic, which would include placing the directors of the company in their appropriate category.
Your Director/Executive section may look like this
Oh, you're right - I thought it was on every quote page, but I'm not seeing now either. I'll see what I can do about that.
I was using the site message to introduce people to the new platform. I don't know if it would be intuitive for people at this point to provide the link to the ADVFN wiki. Hmmmm...
Thanks!
Thanks Shelly
I see it on the board page (per your link) but if you put in a symbol in "GET QUOTE" there is no link there..
Also the links at the top of most of the board pages take you to this thread instead of to ADVFN Wiki
That may be OK for not to get people familiar with it but you my as well have a direct link at the top of the threads.
Toofuzzy
See the quote box here?
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=4338
Bottom right in the box you should see a link to WIKI.
Thanks for adding that piece!
If you scroll to the very bottom of the page, see where it says categories? Medical/Drug is in red which means a page doesn't exist for that yet.
By clicking on it, wiki automatically creates a page for you. Not with formatting though and I'll attempt that part now. ;)
Edit - oh, that was simple! You just create the page and type in "This category is for companies who are involved with...." and it auto adds the company for you to that page. Wiki's are great. :)
Another Edit - I guess now that I've fixed it, that part is no longer red. But, that's what red means whenever you see it on a wiki page - "a board is not yet created for this, click here to create one".
Thank you very much!! I've already had one CEO reach out and thank me. He even offered a correction.
Before anyone gets too excited though, the ceo didn't hunt me down. I have sent an Email to each of the IR departments of the company's which I added information for and requested them to review the wiki.
Congrats smalltime on the Asst Mod and spectacular job with the Wikis
Great concept guys this is going to be a great resource.
Dont mind him. He just likes to whine about everything. Maybe he should have read that post?????
I think I added it correctly.
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/OTCBB:ELTP
Though did have a problem with
industry = Medical/Drugs
Even though I added that, it didn't add it to Sectors, so not certain how someone would locate it by browsing through Sectors.
ELTP ready for their infobox badge :)
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/Elite_Pharmaceuticals
Thanks, I should be OK now, I just didn't know how to get started.
Don't be hard on yourself :) Let me know if you need more help. I can continue to add generic information if you're uncomfortable. I'm sure you will want to enhance some of the paragraphs which are there now. I tried to put in some special formatting on some of what I put on there, such as ref tags. I even left off a board member if you wanted to click on the "Executive" Edit button and adding Robert Dahl.
by starting with
Board Member
:Robert Dahl
::About Robert
and maybe changing
Board Member
for Paul to
Investor Relations Director
Thanks a bunch, I was clueless.
I have applied the template. Someone will add the info box to the right. I haven't figured out how to apply the infobox template.
I did also start filling in some of the data from the otcmarkey documents.
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/Ideal_Financial_Solutions
I would strongly suggest just using the "Edit" buttons to the right. The Edit button makes global changes.
Keep in mind these simple formatting commands
text makes something bold
;Starts a block
:Indent 1
::Indent 2
===text=== has a huge impact to things, but for example I added examples for CEO, but I'm sure there is other executive and board members which need to be added.
I have never done a wiki page before and would be grateful if you would apply your template to the IFSL wiki page, thank you so much.
Thank you Shelly!!
Hello all Wiki readers and soon to be Wiki editors.
I have volunteered to offer assistance to anyone who wishes to work their wiki pages. I too have basically began down the road of wiki editing. I welcome the challenge of tripping down the path with you.
I just need to know, how you would like me to help you? I'm willing to help solve your problems, offer feedback and constructive criticism. I welcome constructive criticism on my current projects.
These are examples of the projects I have been working on
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/USOTC:GRDO
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/USOTC:EGOC
If you do not know how to start, I will gladly apply a template to your wiki site so you can start from a framework.
Also, I'm a huge fan of the wiki philosophy. I understand the desire to "pump" the company's position, I would urge hesitation. Wiki is meant to be unbiased. Like the old motto "State the Facts and Only the Facts". Once you start adding forward looking information, it can diminish the value of your page.
The work you do will offer a huge impact to the companies. It will allow enhanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It will also give credit to being a member if advfn by drawing more attention as a stock research and collaborative group.
Welcome to the new Assistant Mod! Thanks for going in - it looks like you've got the most experience so far and have made some really nice pages. :)
I copied one from another wiki page and changed the content. Also added a Category for Alternative/Green. It can have more than one category, I think. Let me know if there's another and I'll try.
I'm not certain how to properly apply the "Template:Infobox company" to http://wiki.advfn.com/en/USOTC:EGOC on the forums it's considered Oil/Gas/Natural Energy Production though in reality they are developing Green alternatives for exhaust systems. I would appreciate some assistance in developing the info box. I have a loaded logo on the page down in the "Additional Information" section.
Thank you
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll work on it Sunday through Tuesday.
No. I just see ADVFN Wiki as a forum where a lot of incorrect items could be posted about a particular stock.
But good luck with it.
Thank you Dave for fixing the the logo on the GRDO page. I started to look around more and just figured out the "view/diff" edit histories, etc.. And saw you added it from the upload.
Very Cool!
Lol :) I didn't realize that was what the blue box meant around the links.
Also, I see you mentioned a template, not certain where/how to apply that to the next company wiki I work on.
I did find it a little annoying at first to set up the categories, however, it made editing a lot easier down the line. Much easier to hit the edit on the right than the "whole" page at the top.
Very nice. I added a canned template to the top.
You might want to eliminate the leading spaces on some of the lines, since that tells the wiki to not use formatting. If you want to indent start the line with one or more colons.
Thank you very much, though the cheatsheet made the job a lot easier :)
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/Help:CheatSheet
I strongly suggest printing the sheet out, it helps a lot!!!
You did a great job on that page. Lots of good information. I like the way your contents are set up.
http://wiki.advfn.com/en/Guard_Dog
I have never written wiki before, I'm a huge fan of wiki :) I'm excited for the potential SEO this will bring, not only to the board (ihub) but to the individual companies. I did create this page, and hopefully more follow suit.
Wow - nice page! Did you create this? Did you have wiki experience prior?
