Both companies put out press releases saying they'd somehow acquired other companies that owned Treasury STRIPS.

That was not the case. And then there was the nonsense about the MTNs that were supposedly backed by the same Treasurey STRIPS none of the companies actually owned.

MTN scams are very, very common.
