Check to see if your old share buys were consolidated last year. In my case there was a partial share left that was dropped off and I was able to claim. Although it's mentioned on the 1099, the "sell" is unreported, so you might have to dig a little. Your broker might not have done this. I'm glad they did it - after all the splits it would have been a bear figuring out the cost basis for those buys I did way back when. I used to use my fingers to count all the zeros, now I use my fingers to count all the shares - easier than adding up a blackjack hand. This is the stock that keeps on giving.
