Digimarc Teams With Datalogic to Dramatically Improve Checkout Scanning Speed
World's Leading POS Scanner Manufacturer Enables Detection of Digimarc(R) Barcodes in Fixed POS Imaging Devices

BEAVERTON, OR and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jan 13, 2014) - NRF Booth #132 -- Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRC) today announced that Datalogic, a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation markets and producer of barcode readers, has enabled its new Magellan™ 9800i multi-plane imaging scanner to detect and process Digimarc® Barcodes. The fully integrated solution will significantly reduce checkout times for retailers, boosting the average number of items scanned per minute. This faster scanning improves margins for retailers and reduces checkout wait time for consumers. The companies will demonstrate their new technologies, including the newly unveiled Digimarc Barcode at the National Retail Federation's Annual Convention and EXPO (Retail's BIG Show) 2014.

"Just as the UPC changed the face of retail when it was introduced almost 50 years ago, Digimarc Barcodes will have a similar impact," said Matt Schler, General Manager of Fixed Retail Scanning, Datalogic. "We're thrilled to be partnering with Digimarc to introduce this new, innovative technology to retailers."

Digimarc Barcodes contain the same GTIN data currently carried in the product's UPC code. The data is invisibly repeated multiple times over the entire package. This means that checkout clerks, as well as shoppers using self-checkout, can quickly scan items without having to find and position the barcode toward the reader, resulting in shorter lines for consumers and cost savings for retailers.

"We have found a great partner in Datalogic to bring a state-of-the-art point of sale solution to retailers," said Ed Knudson, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Digimarc. "So much time can be saved when traditional barcodes are augmented with Digimarc Barcodes. In fact, our tests with professional checkers have shown checkout scanning time can easily be cut by as much as 50 percent."

The new Magellan 9800i scanner is the world's first barcode scanner driven completely by high performance digital imaging, resulting in the ability to increase checkout performance. It is offered in a full range of in-counter scanners and scanner/scales with high reliability designed to provide maximum throughput.
