FYI to all: Great new products from Western Digital


Here is an offering from WDC that is as good and important as the PCs, pads or phones we are using.
The WDC MY CLOUD drive system and the Sentinel DX4000 small business NAS+ (Network Area Storage) for home office/business. What does it give you besides data security and backup? 'Ubiquitous' data availability and access where ever you are. When everyone is putting their important personal data in the hands and trust of strangers like Drop Box or other subscription services WDC has made a bold and significant move to give users the option of privacy and autonomy that is in their own hands and control. Easy to set up and support if needed. INEXPENSIVE! ~$150 for My Cloud and as low as $700 for the DX4000.

The most exciting is the DX4000 unit. What you get is:

- Automated Data Backup.
- Expandable storage to 16 terabytes.
- Automated hot swap RAID built in.
- The security of Windows 2008 Storage Server software for 25 users included.
- Not last and not least automated bare metal hardware backup and restore of up to 25 PC, MAC, Linux or Unix computers with remote management over your network. That alone is worth the price.

In my opinion it will not be long before users 'get it' and realize that they can do their own backups, restores and 'cloud' services. Automatically and securely. If you have a internet connection and router that is all you need. After the initial PC based setup you just plug it in and you are on line both locally and on the cloud. You can even automate the router IP configuration. A Snowden No Brainer?
