Pat Buchanan to GOP: Better to destroy the country than give in to Obamacare

In a column at “birther” conspiracy website World Net Daily, longtime Republican Party operative and former Nixon aide Pat Buchanan urged the Republicans to destroy America’s standing in the world rather than give in to President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare.

Right Wing Watch reported that Buchanan urged the Republican Party to be like the Biblical character Samson, who, betrayed by the temptress Delilah and blinded by the Philistines, pulled down the Philistines’ temple to kill them and himself rather than live in subjugation.

“Republicans should refuse to raise the white flag and insist on an honorable avenue of retreat,” Buchanan wrote. “And if Harry Reid’s Senate demands the GOP end the sequester on federal spending, or be blamed for a debt default, the party should, Samson-like, bring down the roof of the temple on everybody’s head.”

Buchanan was referring to the current fight over raising the debt limit, one that, as of Wednesday morning, Republican appear to have lost. The erstwhile NBC political commentator insisted that the country is on the precipice and that Republicans must ignore their plummeting poll numbers to save America by wrecking it.

“If she does not stop squandering hundreds of billions on liberal agenda items like Obamacare and if she do not [sic] end these trade deficits sucking the jobs, factories and investment capital out of our country,” he warned, “we will find ourselves beside Greece, Spain, Illinois and Detroit.”

“Even if America disagrees,” he said, “as in 1964 when it embraced LBJ’s Great Society plunge to social and economic disaster, Republicans need to stand up –- current polls and corporate Republicans be damned.”

Robertson was fired from MSNBC after his book Suicide of a Superpower‘s chapter “The End of White America” was deemed racist and inflammatory. MSNBC president Phil Griffin said that the book was not suitable for public discourse.
