Melvin Royis Ward, age 79, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 in Crystal City, Texas. He was born Jan. 29, 1934 in Navarro County and lived the majority of his early years in Corsicana. The son of Watson and Ruth Ward, he attended Mildred High School and went on to college in Tyler and obtained a degree in Accounting. He began working at Coffelt and Gutherie before going into business for himself as a successful independent oil and gas operator in Texas for over 65 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audra Leyton Ward.

He is survived by his devoted companion of over 55 years, Catherine Boychuk and his current wife, Shirley Ward; son, Michael Ward and wife Chris of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Gina Voss of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Matthew Ward and wife Amanda of Corpus Christi, Patrick Dosser and wife Gina of San Antonio, John Dosser and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio, Justin Ward and wife Nicole of Castle Rock, Colo., and Tasha Clark of Corpus Christi; great-grandchildren, Mason, Tiffany, Christopher, Aiden, Myles and Blake; brother, Morris Ward and wife Jennie of Athens; nephews, Dwayne Ward and wife Sharron, Terry Ward and Kenny Ward.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Connally officiating.
