Phil Donahue filled in this week for Bill Moyers on his weekly Bill Moyers & Co program and featured Historian, West Point grad, Vietnam vet and History prof at Boston University, Andrew Bracevich to discuss his book BREACH OF TRUST: HOW AMERICANS FAILED THEIR SOLDIERS AND THEIR COUNTRY, and U.S. plans to invade Syria. Bracevich's book lays out how the Am public is manipulated by the military and MLB and how they used each other after the U.S. invasion of Iraq - he talked about the military pre-game show at Fenway Park with the mandatory fly-over, designed to stir patriotism and "support our troops" after Bush's Iraqi invasion. The interview and an excerpt from Bracevich's book is on Moyer's web site, billmoyers.com
Bracevich asks...Given what we know abut Syria, is a U.S. response justified?...And if we take action, where and when does it stop? And he wonders if Iraq is fading in the American rearview mirror. He also wonders if the military was made up of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton grads would our pols be quick to send them into harm's way.

Bracevich describes himself as a conservative Catholic.

If the U.S. strikes Syria, we probably will see more pre-game military shows during the football season - to stir patriotism, of course.
