(H/t to the luverly Wonkette)

We should always end the day with a laugh, and today is no different, so let's move along to Siskiyou County in Califor-ni-yay, where the local Board Of Supervisors has decided not .. http://www.times-standard.com/localnews/ci_24011588/siskiyou-supervisors-support-withdrawal-from-california .. to be part of Califor-ni-yay any more because, you know, FREEEEDOOOMMMMMMMMM!

The whole thing seems to be the brainchild of a guy who doesn't want anyone telling him he can't water his lawn. Or something.

-----
"We have to have government that's local, understands our issues and has empathy" for those affected, said Mark Baird, a Scott Valley rancher who's also president for Scott Valley Protect Our Water and vice president of the Siskiyou Water User's Association. Baird is leading the charge to form a new state from rural counties in Northern California and Southern Oregon, though he certainly wasn't the only voice in support of the move.
------

(Here's what seems to be the bug .. http://commonsenseagriculture.com/2012/05/22/siskiyou-county-farm-bureau-vs-california-department-of-fish-and-game-update/ .. up brother Baird's ass. This is a minor example of the great benefits modern conservative loony-tune-ism has brought to local government. Every minor regulatory change is the Nuremberg laws. Every local zoning board meeting turns into the Diet Of Worms. See also: Agenda 21 .. http://www.esquire.com/archives/blogs/politics/by_tag/agenda%2021/15;1 .)

-----
More than 100 people packed the supervisors' chambers Tuesday for the discussion on whether the county should issue a declaration that it wants to secede from the state. Nearly all those in attendance appeared to be for the move and about a dozen spoke in support of it. "Many proposed laws are unconstitutional and deny us our God-given rights," said Gabe Garrison of Happy Camp. "We need our own state so we can make laws that fit our way of life."
-----

Gabe, dude, the problem is that, if you make your own state, you pretty much have to stay part of the United States Of America, Supremacy Clause and all. Unless you don't want to be part of the United States, in which case, you are not making your own "state," you're making your own country. And good luck to you on that.

Oh, hell. Y'all aren't stupid. You know I posted this only to point out that there's a place in Califor-ni-yay called Happy Camp. I think we should all go to Happy Camp. I think John McCain should be mayor.

It was Plato who said, “He, O men, is the wisest, who like Socrates, knows that his wisdom is in truth worth nothing”
