US Baby Boomers Are Creating Medical Care Demand in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has long been a popular medical tourist destination and the best hospitals have historically been located in San Jose. Jaco Beach is only an hour’s drive to these facilities but condo and hotel developer, Pat Hundley and some of the top medical experts from the capital feel the local demand can support a private regional hospital with quality English speaking healthcare services.

According to the 2011 Census, an estimated 9% of Costa Rica’s population is residents from other counties. “More North Americans are both retiring and relocating permanently then we have ever seen before. Jaco Beach is maturing into much more than a vacation destination as it has become a real community with higher education, medical and entertainment demands. ” says Hannah Rico Fletcher, a local REMAX real estate broker.

Pat Hundley who is known for his luxury condo developments in Jaco recently brought together 20 of the top doctors to announced the plans for this medical center. The DayStar Medical Center will provide 24 hour 7 day a week emergency care, house calls and will collaborate with the patient’s physician in their home country. The medical group will include specialists in dental, dermatology, plastic surgery, pediatrics, sports medicine, trauma, internal medicine, GYN, orthodontics, and more. This facility will provide affordable care to both expats and locals without the hassle of traveling to the city.

Mr. Hundley’s vision is to complete the construction of the hospital in the next two to three years. In the meantime, the facility will be located in a commercial building on the main strip of the bustling beach town.
