Girl Guides, British Girl Scouts, Drop God From Pledge In Effort To Maintain Inclusiveness

After more than 100 years of swearing allegiance to God, country and Queen, the British Girl Guides have decided to drop the God reference in a move hailed by secular groups.

Founded in 1910 [ http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4975129/Girl-Guides-ditch-God-but-keep-Promise-to-the-Queen.html ], the British version of the American Girl Scouts made the change after a consultation [ http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/06/19/uk-girl-guides-god/2437331/ ] that resulted in close to 44,000 responses, according to the Associated Press.

Chief Guide Gill Slocombe said that ultimately the reference to God seemed to have been discouraging some people from joining or volunteering with the Guides.

For example, one of the young women who wrote in to the Guides said that she felt like she was lying [ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/10128251/Guides-drop-God-and-country-but-keep-the-Queen.html ] when she recited the promise to a God she didn't believe in, according to The Telegraph.

"We hope that the new wording will help us reach out to girls and women who might not have considered guiding before — so that even more girls can benefit from everything guiding can offer," Slocombe said in a statement on the Guides' website [ https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/news/welcoming_more_members_with_ou.aspx ].

The new promise reads:

I promise that I will do my best: to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the (Brownie) Guide law.

The National Secular Society applauded the Gild Guides' move and said the changes send a "clear signal that the organization is equally welcoming to all girls," society campaigns manager Stephen Evans said, according to the AP.

In a poll conducted by The Independent, the majority of respondents said they felt the Guides were right to change the pledge [ http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/iv-drip/poll-are-the-girl-guides-right-to-drop-god-8664628.html ]. However, some religious organizations were less enthusiastic about the wording revision.

British Christian advocacy organization Christian Concern [ http://www.christianconcern.com/about ], for example, said the change was not consistent with the original Girl Guides values.

“It sounds like jargon from a consumerist self-help manual completely at odds with the true ethos of the Guiding organization which was set up to encourage belief in God and a corporate identity, not about individualism but to understand what it really is to be part of a community," Christian Concern's Andrea Williams said, according to the Telegraph.

Pat Buchanan Panics at News of 'Demographic Winter of White America'

When we read the news [ http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2013/06/13/census_white_deaths_are_outnumbering_white_births_for_the_first_time_in.html ] yesterday that, for the first time in American history, more white people are dying than are being born, we knew that a racist Pat Buchanan column could not be far behind.

And we were not disappointed. Buchanan uses his syndicated column today [ http://townhall.com/columnists/patbuchanan/2013/06/14/the-bell-tolls-for-the-new-majority-n1619776/page/full ] to lament “the demographic winter of white America” and suggest that rather than “pander” to people of color, the GOP should instead impose a moratorium on all new immigration in order to stop “what mass immigration is doing to the country demographically, ethnically, socially and politically.”

The demographic winter of white America is at hand, even as it began years ago for the native-born of old Europe.

In political terms, this is depressing news for the Republican Party. For nearly 90 percent of all Republican votes in presidential elections are provided by Americans of European descent.

In 1960 white folks were close to 90 percent of the entire U.S. population and 95 percent of the electorate. Nixon's New Majority was created by pulling Northern Catholic ethnics and Southern conservative Protestants, white folks all, out of the Roosevelt coalition and bringing them into a new alliance that would give Nixon a 49-state landslide in 1972, which Reagan would replicate in 1984.

But since that New Majority gave the Republicans five victories in six presidential elections, four of them 40-state landslides, the political world has turned upside down, and demography is the cause.

Mitt Romney won 59 percent of the white vote, a 3-to-2 victory over Obama among America's majority. In any year before 1980, that would have meant victory. But in 2012 whites were only 74 percent of those who went to the polls.

America's white majority, 64 percent of the population and 74 percent of the electorate, still declining in relative terms, has begun to decline in real terms. Deaths outnumber births. Among all U.S. births in 2012, white babies were outnumbered by babies of color.

If Republicans are opposed to what mass immigration is doing to the country demographically, ethnically, socially and politically, there are, as Reagan used to say, "simple answers, just no easy answers."

Those answers: No amnesty, secure the border, enforce laws against businesses that hire illegals, and impose a moratorium on new immigration so wages can rise and immigrants enter the middle class and start voting as did the children and grandchildren of the immigrants of 1890-1920 by 1972.

So what are the Republicans doing?

Going back on their word, dishonoring their platform, and enraging their loyal supporters, who gave Mitt 90 percent of his votes, to pander to a segment of the electorate that gave Mitt less than 5 percent of his total votes.

Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.

For his part, Wiles was unaware that he had been featured on the program until he checked his email and voice-mail on Wednesday morning and found himself under an avalanche of messages attacking for the insane things [ http://www.rightwingwatch.org/category/people/rick-wiles ] that he has said. I discovered that MSNBC's socialist news commentator Rachel Maddow played a soundbite of me on her program last night. Thank you, Rachel. I appreciate the publicity even though there aren't that many people watching MSNBC, but I'll take all the publicity I can get.

The people who do watch it, however, have a visceral hate for Jesus Christ and Christians. In fifteen years of full-time ministry, I have never read or heard such ugly, hateful, threatening, vulgar, obscene, blasphemous messages in my life. Ever. I won't even repeat them because some of the things that they said about our lord and savior Jesus Christ is so vulgar, so blasphemous, that it only could be uttered by people who are demon-possessed.

The spirit of Antichrist is loose in America. A man of lawlessness is in the White House. His followers hate Christianity. And most of the American Christian church has yet to realize the scope and depth of this hellish hate that is boiling in the Obamanistas towards anybody who dares to profess biblical Christianity and morality.

It is the same spirit that rose up in the Nazis in Germany towards the Jews. This time it will be the Christians in America who are locked up or put to death.

Swanson: Star Trek Promotes Bestiality, Children's Show Superhero 'Probably Fighting Christians'

On Generations Radio this week, Kevin Swanson discussed the parenting conundrum of censoring children’s entertainment. The pastor and right-wing radio broadcaster began by criticizing Star Trek Into Darkness for a scene in which Captain Kirk wakes up next to “not just one, but two” females of the “wrong” species.

Swanson condemned the movie for endorsing bestiality. He blamed evolution for the blockbuster’s vice, as “evolution has no basic problem with bestiality or cross-species mating.”

Swanson: Do I really want to take my kids to watch a movie that implicates the good guy in the film as mating with the wrong species- but not just one, but two.

Beuhner: Well you know I could understand that Christians would get upset if it was a male of a different species. No actually, I’m not sure that the bestiality and the homosexuality are really all that different.

Swanson: So uh Dave I said to myself we’re not gonna go see that movie. So, you know, you gotta draw the line somewhere don’t ya? I mean, ay yay yay. And how many Christians asked that question? I actually did a survey, I mean I went on to Google and kind of goggled, you know, Christian sites, I mean I try not to put the wrong kind of wording into the Google search, cause if you do that, you can be in a heap of trouble. So I did a little search, turns out there was a Catholic site, had a little forum discussion on the issue. And nobody brought up Leviticus 18 Dave, and of course the whole premise of this is that within an evolutionary construct there is no real problem with speciation and cross-species mating, there’s no problem with that at all, in fact that’s how you evolve, that’s how you get evolution, and so the end result of course is that evolution has no basic problem with bestiality or cross-species mating. Okay? Now some of you are saying that I can’t believe these guys are saying this on this radio program. I can’t believe I’m saying this either. They are going places where no man has gone before. Or should.

Later in the program, Swanson and his co-host Dave Beuhner discussed the animated show Shezow of the Hub network. The show features a twelve-year-old male superhero who must become a girl to utilize his powers. Swanson questioned the superhero’s ability to fight evil when he should be fighting the “evil” of “homosexuality and this transgender thing.”

Instead, “he’s probably fighting Christians and trying to be sure that they’re burned at the stake or something.”

Swanson: What he does, it’s a twelve year old boy, and he’s got this little magic statement he makes, “You go girl,” so once he says “you go girl”, he turns into a girl, he wears a purple skirt and a cape, as well as pink gloves and white boots, and he, you know, overcomes evil. The problem is-

Buehner: And he’s able to find really good deals on Rodeo Drive while shopping. Swanson: Well no. The problem is he tries to overcome evil, but Dave, evil as it turns out as defined by scripture is homosexuality and this transgender thing, so that would be evil. So if he was fighting the evil he would have to fight that. But apparently he’s probably fighting Christians and trying to be sure that they’re burned at the stake or something.

'Man of Steel' marketers target Christians by sending pastors prepared sermons that compare Superman to Jesus Christ

Marketers for the newest Hollywood Superman movie, 'Man of Steel,' are heavily targeting Christians by offering church leaders free screenings of the film as well as sermon notes emphasizing its religious themes.

The notes, titled 'Jesus: The Original Superhero,' run nine pages long and suggest that pastors show the 'Man of Steel' trailer during their Sunday morning sermon, CNN [ http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2013/06/14/superman-coming-to-a-church-near-you/ ] reported Friday.

'How might the story of Superman awaken our passion for the greatest hero who ever lived and died and rose again?' the sermon notes ask.


Attracting church-goers: Marketers for the newest Hollywood Superman movie, 'Man of Steel,' are heavily targeting Christians

'Man of Steel' opened in theaters on Friday and brought in a massive $125.1 million over the weekend, breaking the record for the biggest June opening weekend ever.

The marketing angle for the movie, in which Clark Kent is interchangeable with Jesus Christ, clearly wasn't an afterthought. Christian themes are overtly weaved into the imagery, dialogue and storyline of the film.

Superman is sent to Earth from the planet Kryptonite by his parents, who predict 'he'll be a god' to the earthlings.

He is then raised by surrogate parents and at age 33, he must sacrifice himself to save the human race. Jesus Christ was 33 when he was crucified.

In one scene from the movie, Clark Kent seeks advice from a priest and in the background, there is a large painting of Jesus, providing viewers a side-by-side comparison of them.


Convincing: Christian themes are overtly weaved into the imagery, dialogue and storyline of the film.

In another scene, Superman jumps from villian General Zod's ship and hovers in the sky with his arms out-stretched like the crucifix.

'What Jesus and Superman both give us, through their "hero" actions but also their "human" actions – is hope,' the movie marketers' sermon notes read.

Baltimore pastor Quentin Scott told CNN he attended a screening of the film after receiving the marketing material.

'When I sat and listened to the movie I actually saw it was the story of Christ, and the love of God was weaved into the story,' he said, adding that he was excited to use the movie in a sermon.

That's right, according to the Shoebats, Beck is a practitioner of "Chrislam [ http://shoebat.com/2013/06/10/glenn-beck-converts-to-chrislam/ ]," meaning that he is luring his audience away from true Christianity and into a dangerous Islamo-Mormon deistic universalism with the help of [ http://shoebat.com/2013/06/18/mea-culpa-we-were-wrong-about-glenn-beck-an-open-letter-to-a-beck-apologist/ ] Religious Right leaders such as James Robison, Franklin Graham, and David Barton.

As Theodore explained, Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, considered himself to be a second Muhammad, which is why, Walid said, LDS members will not proselytize to Muslims since "basically they have the same faith":

Walid Shoebat: Glenn Beck isn't really calling for Christianity. He lies when he says 'I'm a Christian, I believe in salvation through Jesus Christ' because he, number one, denies the Trinity; number two, he's a deist. In other words, he believes Muslims and Mormons and all the cults together, Buddhists, believe in God and everybody should conform to this deistic view in belief in God. Why? Because we have a more important thing to deal with and that is the salvation of the country as a nation.

Theodore Shoebat: Why is Glenn Beck so fascinated with universalism? Why does he keep pushing universalism? Because it is part of his religion. People need to understand this about Mormonism. Mormonism is an extreme version of Chrislam. Joseph Smith observed the most extreme form of Islam you could ever imagine. In 1855, the earliest leaders of Mormonism, of the Latter-Day Saints, got together specifically to exalt the Prophet Muhammad. Joseph Smith stated that Muhammad was a prophet of god and that Muhammad suffered just as I have suffered; he paralleled himself to Muhammad. And in a very famous speech he made, the speech called 'Al-Koran or The Sword,' Joseph Smith stated 'in this generation, I will be the second Muhammad. Where it was in his generation the Koran or the sword, it will be in this generation Joseph Smith or the sword.'

Walid Shoebat: The Latter-Day Saints church has sought to respect Islamic laws, that is sharia - that's the thing that Glenn Beck claims to be fighting - and traditions that prohibit conversions of Muslims to other faiths by adopting a policy of non-proselytizing in Islamic countries in the Middle East. In other words, Mormons are not allowed to proselytize to Muslims in the Middle East. Why? Because basically they have the same faith.
