I'm sure Johnson was pissed and every President thereafter because we knew they did it deliberately. Plus Obama sent a not to subtle message to Beebe in our joint military exercises and also in the Democratic platform. If you recall the President did not want the statement that Jerusalem is the Jewish only capital of Israel. In the military exercises we were going to have many ships participate but only sent one - an Aegis Destroyer with orders shoot to kill any unknown aircraft even if marked Israeli. This because of the recent downing of two Turkish fighter jets by Syria and we don't want to get dragged into any problems by ulterior motives.

It appears Beebe was really pissed when General Martin Dempsey told the papers in Sept 2012 prior to the elections that he did not want the US to be “complicit” in an Israeli attack on Iran and made that public in the British press. Beebe berated the General and then the General responded:

Whatever America’s loyalty to Israel may be or may have been, abuse of the highest military officer of the world’s greatest military power by an angry little “pissant potentate” from a “seaside sand heap” nation, the difference between “tail” and “dog,” one forgotten by President Bush is not going to be forgotten by this president.

Under the surface there is no love lost between Obama and Beebe and it will be Beebe who will make concessions like he did with Turkey and also the time frame.

We will not bomb bomb bomb Iran. Nor I doubt will Israel
