I'm sure we'll all be sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for Paul's whiny little voice to issue the teabaager response to the President's State of the Union speech.

Rand Paul to give tea party response to State of the Union

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) will deliver the tea party’s response to President Obama’s State of the Union Address, scheduled for Feb. 12.

The Tea Party Express began issuing their own responses to the annual speech in 2011 with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

Sen. Paul is the son of former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who has run for president on both the Libertarian ticket and in Republican primaries. The elder has advocated for ending all foreign wars, according to ABC News, and also said that Obama should not interfere with recent states’ decisions to legalize marijuana.

Sen. Paul gave a speech at the Heritage Foundation recently in which he said, “Some libertarians argue that Western occupation fans the flames of radical Islam — I agree,” reported the Daily Beast.

Yet he added, “I don’t agree that absent Western occupation that radical Islam ‘goes quietly into that good night.’”

The Washington Post reports that the speech reflected the differences between the two: “Policy-wise, Rand Paul agrees with his father about blowback — at least to some degree — but he also expressed that view in a more careful manner that won’t scare Republicans (or at least not nearly as many).”

The younger Paul has described himself as libertarian, for instance arguing that indefinite detention is an “abomination” and a threat to civil liberties. However, he also opposes abortion rights and co-sponsored legislation in 2011 that defined life as beginning at conception, reported the Daily Beast. On same-sex marriage, he has said, “Between a man and a woman is what I believe in, and I just don’t think it is good for us to change the definition of that,” although he also said the issue should be not be “federalized” and should be left to the states.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) will deliver the Republican response.
