What does it tell you when another police source says
If we didn't handcuff him and he ran out the front door, then we would have had an escaped prisoner on our hands.
(but they did give him a slice of pizza!).
What it tells me is this is a police state; a society where the police feel empowered to do anything to anyone; a system where police never have to think to themselves "Does what I am doing make sense?" because there are no consequences for them to their actions (The $250 million lawsuit the parents are threatening to file? You get to pay the settlement as a taxpayer).
When police cannot deal with a seven year old other than by arresting him, what does that tell you about their modus operandi when they deal with people their own age? Is it any wonder that victims of police violence are now routinely shot in the back "while trying to escape reaching for their waistband" or are gunned down when posing no threat ?
The mentality that allows police officers to believe it makes sense to do this to a seven year old -- and then attempt to justify it -- is the mentality that, along with terror tactics like 'Stop & Frisk', has turned the streets of many of our cities into a police state. The police have turned 'Terry stops' into 'terror stops' and investigations of crimes and arrests into opportunities for murder - all while the good burghers who live on the right side of the tracks cheer them on.
We have created a police state in their minds as well as ours, and this is what it looks like.
