The bottom line? January has very modestly increased odds of being one in which the stock market gains ground. And the rest of the year has equally modestly increased odds of being “up” if January is also. But in both cases the increase in odds is so modest as to suggest that we might want to focus on other factors entirely — both in devising our trading strategies for the month of January, as well as in betting on what the full year will bring for the market.
