ZTE is not waiting on the GOOG outcome to make a move. These are different patents being asserted that relate primarily to telecom infrastructure and there is no overlap.

ZTE is no stranger to patent infringement lawsuits. They have been sued by many companies and they generally do the same thing every time: Delay, Deny, Delay, Deny, and for good measure: Delay and Deny. I would not expect ZTE to roll over, although they did end up settling with Ericsson after 8 months of delaying/denying.

Take a look at the IDCC vs ZTE dispute. IDCC filed a complaint against ZTE at the USITC and that investigation is still ongoing. Novatel recently sued ZTE. Even Huawei, another Chinese telecom giant has sued ZTE. And that might be a good timeline comparison since it also traverses multiple European forums.

ZTE/Huawei Timeline:

April 2011 --> Huawei files lawsuit (in France, Germany, Hungary) aganist rival ZTE (the next day ZTE files countersuit against Huawei in China)

Dec 14, 2012 --> Final scheduled hearing in Mannheim Regional Court for Huawei vs. ZTE takes place. Unfortunately, it's not the final hearing as another one is scheduled for March.

March 2013 --> New-Final hearing in Mannheim is scheduled.

After March 2013 --> the German court is expected to make a ruling

So for those of you keeping score at home, we are looking at two years, give or take for that clash to progress in Mannheim. VRNG filed suit in October against ZTE in the UK and again in November in Germany (in the District Court of Mannheim). In December, VRNG filed a 2nd lawsuit against ZTE in the UK.

Anyone who expects there to be short-term, substantial progress in the actual legal arena regarding the VRNG/ZTE dispute is dreaming. Outside of a settlement, these lawsuits against ZTE are going to take time to play out. And that is why the stock market is focusing almost entirely on the outcome of the GOOG trial in assessing its valuation for VRNG.

Has anybody heard anymore information on the ZTE filings going forward or are they (ZTE) just waiting on the ruling from Vrng/Google case before they make there decision on what they will do? What's your take guys?
