Australian pop singer Sophie Monk has announced her engagement to boyfriend Jimmy Esebag.

Monk announced her engagement this morning on the breakfast show of Sydney radio station 2Day FM, where she is filling in for Jackie O, who is on maternity leave after the birth of her first child.

Jimmy Esebag, 50, is chairman of America's Licensing Holding Group, which owns the rights to the Playboy brand, and is also involved with Elite Modelling Agency.

Monk, who has reportedly been a long-time friend of Esebag, described her new fiance as "a keeper".
"It feels right - I think you know when you know," she said on the show.

The pop star has been living in Los Angeles for the past five years pursuing her acting career.

In 2008, she split from from fiance Benji Madden from the band Good Charlotte. Since then she has been linked to Entourage’s Kevin Connelly and E! host Ryan Seacrest.

"I'm marrying a male version of myself, which is dangerous but good," she said.

Actress Sophie Monk says she is "newly single" after her short engagement to businessman Jimmy Esebag was called off.

Monk revealed the news yesterday in an interview with US comedian Chelsea Handler, who is in Sydney filming episodes of her talk show Chelsea Lately and doing stand-up gigs.

When asked about her engagement to Esebag, the chairman of America's Licensing Holding Group, which owns the rights to the Playboy brand, Monk said it had been called off and joked that she might even "turn Samantha Ronson".
