ed3/6me, with due respect, more were more superstitious back then .. agree, no doubt we have a picture of the man from what has been written .. don't forget there is still biblical scholarly dispute about who wrote what and when .. also that there is much biblical contradiction and even some geographical error in the writings about Jesus .. 'facts' and timelines are still in dispute.
i've always wondered why those who wrote of Jesus left out so many years of his life .. in my bookcase sits ..
by Ian Wilson, in hardcover form .. have had it for yonks ..
AQUARIAN GOSPEL OF JESUS THE CHRIST Leo W. Dowling
in that one a Levi by memory wrote of Jesus' traveling in Africa during some of those years used to be there .. have lost it for years, musta been lent .. some 4 bibles in the house all given to me .. have pondered and researched origins and reasons for religions since being kicked out of Sunday school for asking the minister too difficult questions .. all mentioned on this board before .. science suggests it is 'most probable' Jesus was a man of sperm and egg, as every Dali Llama is, as Mohammad was .. as all of us are.
"without the concrete the many would not have a way to relate on simple terms [...] love, compassion, being sensitive and caring to others are abstract and absurd as they relate to people and how they actually live."
Abstract yes .. not sure what you mean by absurd in that context ..
Socrates suggestion was .. 'every good person is happy' .. sure it's all relative, and no one ever is always happy .. wouldn't be natural or normal .. but do you know why he said that? .. he said, 'everyone wants to be happy and doing good makes one happy so every good person would do what makes them happy .. something like that .. 'and so be happy' ..' the thought was in other religions centuries before the Christian 'do unto others...' appeared ..
Your .. "by being able to give expression and form as in a human being, a teacher and role model are avaiable and as such someone to emulate."
is an idea .. an idea which has been expressed in creation myths since they first were created by Man .. oops! .. WOAN .. :)
Your ideal is admirable .. hope you are happy in your framing of it, too .. others as myself feel we understand the big picture we hold of how Gods became ..
William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe Now Playing (video)
"I suspect," says Kunstler talking to a crowd during the Chicago 8 trial, "that more people have gone to their deaths through a legal system than through all the illegalities in the history of man: 6 million people in Europe during the Third Reich. Legal. Sacco and Vanzetti. Legal. The hundreds of great trials throughout the South where black men were condemned to death. All legal. Jesus. Legal. Socrates. Legal. ... All tyrants learn that it is far better to do this thing through some semblance of legality than to do it without that pretense."
And there is the heart of the film: Kunstler inspires by choosing justice over law and order, by defending pariahs because pariahs are most in need of defense, and by doing it all while grandstanding for the media. In the end, his daughters reconcile Kunstlers uncomfortably complex parts into an all too human, all too familiar, whole. .. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1074194/synopsis http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/replies.aspx?msg=43587244
yup .. none of us is perfect .. some of us will question about everything until we die .. take care .. :)
It was Plato who said, “He, O men, is the wisest, who like Socrates, knows that his wisdom is in truth worth nothing”
