Romney in Ohio and the Political Power of Coal By Charles P. Pierce
(Optional soundtrack to this blog post...)
Old mining hand Willard Romney — "Load 16 tons/Whaddya get?/Another day older/And more cash in the Caymans" — was out in Ohio today, bonding with his fellow workingmen against the perfidy of, among other people, Joe Biden, the King Of The Windmills.
"His vice-president," Romney told the miners, "said that coal kills more people than terrorists. Can you imagine that?"
Well, I've been watching Willard Romney campaign for president for five years now, so I can imagine a politician saying almost anything. For example, I can imagine Willard Romney mendaciously barbering the vice president's remarks. It's not really a stretch.
(And drunk drivers kill more Americans every year than terrorists do. If I said that while running for office, would that be a gaffe?)
(Meanwhile, Biden was, ah, pretty hot today. Joe, dude, if you'd have hired me to write your speeches back in '76 like you could have when I applied, you'd be finishing up construction of the Biden Presidential Library in Scranton by now.)
