Ted Nugent wonders if we'd have been better off with the Confederacy winning the Civil War

Ted Nugent opened his big mouth for the first time since his incendiary appearance at the NRA convention--and promptly stuck his foot deep in it. In an op-ed for today's Washington Times, Nugent parroted the standard wingnut line about John Roberts being a traitor for voting to uphold the health care law. But the Nuge went even further--he wondered if things had been better if the Confederacy had won the Civil War instead of the Union.

Chief Justice Roberts squandered the opportunity to restore judicial, financial and legislative sanity to a government that by any sane person’s standards is insane and addicted to centralized federal control of our lives.

Because our legislative, judicial and executive branches of government hold the 10th Amendment in contempt, I’m beginning to wonder if it would have been best had the South won the Civil War. Our Founding Fathers’ concept of limited government is dead.

Yep, that's right. Nugent joins his wingnut buddies in wringing his hands over the health care bill enslaving us to the government, then wonders if we'd been better off if a "nation" that practiced slavery had come out on top. Way to reveal yourself as a racist, Nuge.

Thus far, there's crickets from the Romney camp on this outrageous statement. If Mittens has anything in him, he will reject Nugent's endorsement. Promptly. Also, tell the Nuge what you think of his idiocy on his Facebook page.

1:12 PM PT: Just moseyed back to Nugent's Facebook page--apparently my comment calling him out for this article has already been deleted. Coward ...
