Fascinating for me, I have no knowledge about electricity generation.

Any electric motor can be a generator of electricity.

A simple power source is a wood stove with water running through copper tubing, boiling water to produce steam.
A steam engine.
I've never experimented with the idea but any gas engine could be used as a steam driven source for power.
Steam energy should be used on the up-stroke and then on the down stroke.
Mechanical valves were used in steam locomotives.
