Nugent dropped from Fort Knox concert after Obama remarks

REO, Styx still scheduled for June 23 on post

Rocker Ted Nugent’s recent comments about President Barack Obama eliminated him from a scheduled June 23 performance at Fort Knox as part of the post’s annual summer concert, the post announced Thursday afternoon.

Nugent set off a controversy at last weekend’s National Rifle Association convention when he criticized high-ranking members of the Obama administration and offered support for possible Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

In a video posted on YouTube by the NRA, Nugent said, “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. If you can’t go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil America hated administration, I don’t even know what you’re made out of.”

Known for hits including “Cat Scratch Fever,’’ Nugent also suggested members of the Obama administration, including the vice president, attorney general and secretary of state, were “criminals.”

Co-headliners REO Speedwagon and Styx remain scheduled to perform, according to a news release.

Army Entertainment and the Fort Knox Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation remain committed to carrying out the concert, a spokesman said. It’s possible a replacement will be selected, according to the news release.
