wangdo - Good information but a few problems:

A) There have been all kinds of companies and researchers who have done testing on a SMALL SCALE..

XYLOWATT only tested on small scale~

In order to prove this experimentally, railway sleeper gasification tests were performed at the Test Gasification Plant of Université Catholique de Louvain (a complete gasification facility on a small scale, but fully comparable to a XYLOWATT industrial facility). During the tests, measurements were taken to prove that the emissions comply with European Directive 2000/76/EC on incineration.

B) The XYLOWATT facility starting in 2013 will be doing 5,000 tonnes annually. GESI is claiming that there PROVEN TECHNOLOGY WILL BE DOING 73,000 TONNES PER YEAR OR 200 TONNES PER DAY.[/b]

WOW...XYLOWATT WILL BE THE FIRST GASIFICATION PLANT APPROVED IN EUROPE AND WILL START IN 2013. EUROPEANS ARE SMART. 5 TONNES ANNUALLY ~ WONDER WHY??

AND GESI >>>>>>

HAS A PROVEN TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL BE DOING 200 TONNES DAILY AND OR 73,000 TONNES ANNUALLY ~??

Two major problems exist when these gasification plants have attempted to operate. They either have mechanical problems (because they've never produced 200 tons per day, everyday, for any length of time) OR (the people living in those towns refuse the plant to be built)

The American Lung Association does not support biomass combustion for electricity production, a category that includes wood, wood products, agricultural residues or forest wastes, and potentially highly toxic feedstocks, such as construction and demolition waste.
The combustion of fossil fuels and biomass in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors in the United States generates a significant share of the nation’s air pollution, threatening the health and lives of millions of people, including those who are most vulnerable to harm.

The American Lung Association supports programs and policies to encourage a transition from coal, oil, and biomass use in the residential and commercial sectors to cleaner alternatives.

The American Lung Association strongly opposes the combustion of wood and other biomass sources at schools and institutions with vulnerable populations.

Gasification Facts????? ~ Facts are derived from proof ~ Not small scale testing

Gets back to the original question???

Is there any plants operating that are proven with the rail ties/creosote??

Anybody?
