Giant King Grass Planted for Overseas Customer

VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC), a clean energy company growing Giant King™ Grass as a low-carbon, renewable dedicated energy crop, and its subsidiary VIASPACE Green Energy Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VGREF) reported that the company has shipped Giant King Grass seedlings from the VIASPACE pilot plantation in China to a customer, and has assisted them in establishing a 5 acre propagation nursery for the customer's bioenergy project. The customer, which paid VIASPACE for the seedlings and technical support, and location of the nursery were not disclosed.

Giant King Grass seedlings were harvested at the VIASPACE pilot plantation in Guangdong province, China and were prepared and packaged for shipment. The Giant King Grass was inspected by Chinese officials and a phytosanitary certificate was issued. The Company's export agent in China worked closely with the import agent in the customer's country to satisfy all of the import requirements. The 1 ton Giant King Grass shipment was sent by air freight.

VIASPACE CEO, Dr. Carl Kukkonen stated that, "It is important to plant the seedlings within two weeks of harvest. That is why we use airfreight."

The seedlings were taken from the airport by truck to the customer site. VIASPACE personnel worked closely with the customer in the evaluation, selection and preparation of the site. Our agronomist was present at the site during planting and trained the customer staff (including a local agronomist) in planting and caring for the Giant King Grass.

The land was tilled and fertilizer was applied based on soil tests. The Giant King Grass seedlings were then prepared, treated and planted. The nursery includes several test subplots designed by both VIASPACE and the customer's local agronomist in order to determine optimal growing conditions for mass production. The location has both good rainfall and irrigation water sources required for optimum growth of the crop.

"This propagation nursery is an important milestone in the customer's energy project and represents a good collaboration between VIASPACE and the customer. The customer knows the local conditions and agricultural practices, while VIASPACE knows the requirements for Giant King Grass," reports Dr. Kukkonen. "Together, we are developing the capability for local propagation of Giant King Grass for a large-scale plantation. We will be returning on a regular basis to the location to ensure its success. This is a large bioenergy project that is expected to bring significant revenue to VIASPACE, so we are giving it our highest priority."

Giant King Grass has been extensively tested and has been shown to be an excellent fuel for biomass electricity power plants, and feedstock for energy pellets, biogas production, biofuels and biochemicals. Test data is available to potential customers.
