Newt Gingrich launches 'Women With Newt' coalition to make women not hate him

Chicks totally dig Newt. Except they don't. (Jeff Haynes/Reuters)
Yes, Newt has been married several times. And yes, he's had who knows how many extramarital affairs that didn't lead to ditching his current wife to marry his girlfriend. But that doesn't mean Newt's very popular with women. In fact, polls have consistently shown that women aren't exactly swooning for Newt. Maybe it's because of his attempted open marriage. Can't imagine why women voters might cringe at a guy who bangs his aide for six years and then asks his wife if she's cool with that.

Maybe it's because when asked to clarify his stance on women's rights, he responded by saying, "In fact, if anything, you’ll be here in fifteen years wondering what we’ll do about [male] inequality and male unemployment." In other words, you broads have more than enough rights as it is.

So now the Gingrich campaign is launching its pathetic attempt to woo the womenfolk. Via TPM:

The Gingrich campaign announced Monday that Callista Gingrich will lead a Women with Newt Coalition. Gingrich will lead work with 6 co-chairs, which include Gingrich's two daughters from his previous marriage -- Kathy Gingrich Lubbers and Jackie Gingrich Cushman -- as well as Jeri Thompson, the wife of Gingrich supporter Fred Thompson.

This makes perfect sense, of course. Who better to make the case to women voters that Newt cares about their concerns than the two adult daughters who love to trash talk the second Mrs. Gingrich, and of course the homewrecker who was banging her married boss until he ditched the aforementioned second Mrs. Gingrich and made an honest woman out of his homewrecking aide?

So, other than sending these women out to say "women" a lot, what exactly is the strategy here for trying to appeal to women voters?

The campaign said it would announce regional advisors in Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, California, and Ohio soon. It was not very specific on what the coalition would do exactly.

Ah. So the strategy is pretty much to use the word "women." Yup, that should work like a charm.
