BION---Industrial Uses of Urea
Urea has numerous commercial and industrial applications. It is used to produce animal feed, some types of plastics, glues, toilet bowl cleaners, dishwasher detergents, hair coloring products, pesticides and fungicides. It is used in pharmaceuticals such as barbiturates and diuretics and as a component in dermatological products that re-hydrate the skin.
Urea is also a main ingredient of hair removal products, a browning agent in factory-made pretzels, a cloud seeding agent, and a flameproofing agent.
In the coming years, demand for urea is expected to increase in the transportation sector. Urea is used to reduce pollutants in exhaust gases from combustion of diesel, dual fuel, and lean-burn natural gas engines. Urea neutralizes nitrogen oxide emissions, converting them into nitrogen and water within a catalytic converter
