It's illegal for MMs to collude on stock prices to start with.
But if they were going to, how dumb would using bid/ask sizes be? It would take anyone with a little smarts no time to figure out the "signals" and the SEC even less.

Most likely someone buying or selling in weird lots to give the appearance of a grand conspiracy. MMs make a few cents on EVERY trade, they don't have time to play sides.
