Here's the thing. Suppose you have QBII shares on deposit in your brokerage account and your brokerage lends them to someone who sells them to another buyer. Therefore, you and the new buyer both own the same QBII shares, right?

Suppose QBII shares paid a dividend. Then you would collect dividend money on your shares through your brokerage account. The new shareholder ("new buyer" in the preceding paragraph) would also collect a dividend. The person who borrowed the QBII shares and sold them would have to match the dividend and pay that money to your brokerage from whom they borrowed the QBII shares. Pretty neat when you think about it, Quantumbit can pay a dividend of some total amount but shareholders through brokerages can collect more money (total) than Quantumbit paid out. The "extra money" comes from those people who have borrowed and sold QBII shares, in essence the people who have bet that QBII's price will go down end up supplying the "extra money". In simplest terms, QBII shareholders can collect extra money from those people that have bet against us!
