Hospitality Properties Trust (HPT) is a real estate investment trust (REIT). As of December 31, 2010, HPT owned 289 hotels with 42,880 rooms or suites, and 185 travel centers. Its properties are located in 44 states in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The Company has two segments: hotel and travel center real estate investments. As of December 31, 2010, HPT owned 185 travel centers; 145 of its travel centers are operated under the TravelCenters of America (TA), brand names and 40 are operated under the Petro Stopping Centers (Petro), brand name. At December 31, 2010, its properties were leased or operated by subsidiaries of companies, such as Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. (Host); Marriott International, Inc. (Marriott); InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (InterContinental); Hyatt Hotels Corporation (Hyatt); Carlson Hotels Worldwide (Carlson), and TravelCenters of America LLC (TA). In January 2012, it acquired Royal Sonesta Hotels in Cambridge, MA and in New Orleans, LA.
