Genesee & Wyoming Inc owns and operates short line and regional freight railroads and provides railcar switching services in the United States, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands. In addition, the Company operates a railroad that runs approximately 1,400 miles northsouth between Tarcoola in South Australia and Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. It operates in 28 states in the United States, four Australian states, one Australian territory and three Canadian provinces and provides rail service at 16 ports in North America and Europe. As of December 31, 2010, it operated ver approximately 7,400 miles of owned and leased track and approximately 1,400 additional miles under track access arrangements. In September 2011, the Company acquired Arizona Eastern Railway.
