Super PACs Explained!

Earlier today, I wrote about Newt Gingrich and the “super PAC” supporting him [ http://loyalopposition.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/13/newt-gingrich-confronts-his-super-pac/ ] that is running an attack “documentary” on Mitt Romney.

Mr. Gingrich called on the “super PAC,” Winning Our Future, to fix any errors in the film or pull it off the air. He explained that he could not directly ask the group to do that, because he is not supposed to “coordinate” with the PAC.

I tried to explain how these organizations work in my post, but since then, I saw on the Atlantic Wire a video [ http://www.theatlanticwire.com/entertainment/2012/01/theres-big-legal-reason-why-stephen-colbert-wont-run-president/47355/ ] in which Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart pretty much take care of it.
