this inherently is very dangerous territory -- a representative democracy can put into power absolutists who end it as a representative deocracy; Hitler, as one example, took office and then took absolute power through just enough elections won by his party, an appointment duly made, and actions taken pursuant to laws duly passed -- either enough folks shake off the bs and stand up, above all vote, to back these folks down, or not
