time to announce the winner of our cnbc million-dollar portfolio challenge. joining us now, we've got gary lewis and scott cole. gary's here. scott's here. they have both won something big. one is going to take home a million bucks. that is the grand prize. one gets this brand new maserati convertible. let's get right to it. the winner of the maserati is, scott cole. which means the winner of the million bucks is illinois's own, gary lewis. congratulations. thank you. thank you. thank you. scott is from redwood city, california. it's a hot car. i got to drive it earlier. believe me. it's already used. it's a used car now. no it's not. he gets to select his own in california by the way. congratulations for that. quickly, gary, i know you can't shake my hand. i appreciate it. quick on your strategy. all right. hundreds of thousands of portfolios out there. you guys came in first and second. truly incredible. what was your strategy? well, we want to capitalize as much as we could on market volatility. so i as well as scott i believe here chose a basket of etfs that would allow us to go either short or long in the market. apparently a lot of good luck from the good lord. the market swinging my way when i was long or short enabled me to do this. well, i know you used leveraged etfs as well. you know our boy herb greenberg hates leveraged etfs. what message do you have for herb since he's not here? i agree with herb totally. i wouldn't do that for my own portfolio. for the game you have to find the most extreme risk you can. that's not something i would recommend. throw this over to -- are you going to be all right? yeah. it's like 6 degrees out here. is your wife here? is that correct? bring. she's here somewhere. congratulations, madame. it's going to be really hard to take this to a bank. i'm not sure they'll take this one. we also want to say thank you to all of the contest participants as well as the sponsors, fcxm and also the very generous folks from maserati. thank you to all of them. congratulations once again. thank you.
