I don't do much merlot unless it's a bordeaux or super tuscan blend... on wtso.com right now is an alexander valley cab (optima) for $18. I've had it, it's pretty decent.. alexander valley often produces cabernets with a certain 'dusty tannin' type characteristic that often displays as soft and sweet (imo).. It used to be my favorite region, but i've since moved away from it.. anyways, the optima may be worth a bottle or two if it's in your price range. Jump on their petite syrah offering if it ever comes about... great values with Petite Syrah.. ( and no, it's not just a small syrah grape, it's a different varietal)
