Looking closer @ the QMC/NanoAxis relationship...part 2
picking-up where I left off , QMC & NA 'both' have more to gain from this new "alliance" than might 1st meet the eye. The multi-faceted collaboration (as described in my prior part-1 post#8172) , gives an overview of how this might all work...from a 'revenues' standpoint. Beyond that , the workings , objectives , obstacles & mutual benefits of this relationship deserve further analysis.
Milestones & Networking:
By NA entering into this agreement with QMC , NA's highly trained professional staff ( http://nanoaxisllc.com/research_staff.asp ) are in-essence , validatiing QMC's TQD's for commercial purposes...something that has not happened , until now...this represents a significant ‘milestone' for QMC. This is the 1st , of what QMC envisions to be , many networking relationships , sales leads & opportunities to eminate from this initial milestone. This relationship is predicated on the use of our TQD's in the Med/Pharma sector but in looking at the NA website , I see we're not alone in understanding the far-reaching apps for QD's in other sectors as well...solar , paints , RFID's , QLED's etc...as can be seen here: http://nanoaxisllc.com/applications.asp
Conclusion; this may well lead into a number of other mutually beneficial projects w/ NA as well. So far , this is all a win-win situation...& we haven‘t even discussed how our other Ace-in-the-Hole , Dr.J & his printing tech , might-well fit into all this. A multitude of possibilities , I should think.
From the NA website; "new diagnostic biomedical applications using quantum dot technology for real time measurement of various disease markers for both research and development and clinical applications" QDMicroArray & MicroAssay test kits are being contemplated from what I understand. In addition (if I’m interpreting all this correctly) , these kits (or similar platforms) would be used in an ‘ex-vivo’ enviroment…clinical diagnostic sampling & the like…performed at diagnostic’s laboratories & conceivably[?] , even at the local doctors office. Since this technique is typically utilized ’outside’ the human body , I doubt there would be much static from the FDA in this app.
To exemplify my semi-conjecture here , have a look at similar products for sale at: http://www.invitrogen.com/ (another QD manufacturer) & type-in "microarray" & you'll see what I mean. Products of this nature ‘already exist’…there is nothing novel about this concept except that our “highly selective” TQD’s are available in large quantities & exhibit superior characteristics. The regulatory allowances & restrictions as noted in the Invitrogen documentation , would likely be the same for any NA/QMC ‘ex-vivo’ products.
From the NA website; "unique technologies to offer large scale industrial production of quantum dots that can be customized for providing unique biological end applications. This includes 'theranostic' applications that allow simultaneous delivery of pharmaceutical compounds and imaging". Although the envisioned in-vivo/in-vitro search & destroy apps for QD’s are frought with formidable (time-consuming) regulatory & ethical obstacles , here’s where our TQD’s really start to shine (long-term) in my estimation. Per recent disclosures , our TQD’s are now able to be produced using ‘non-toxic’ (or ‘less’ toxic) compounds…compounds ‘other’ than ‘CdSe‘…which was NA’s (prior) solitary QD ingredient to date. With the aid of large (affordable) quantities of QMC’s TQD’s , using various tuned non-toxic QD formulas , NA/QMC should able to substantially re-write the timelines & overcome the obstacles standing in the way of progress in the ’theranostics’ sector. Patents , Trade Secrets & IP
From the NA website; http://nanoaxisllc.com/patent.asp As can be seen , NA is still in the patent pending stage with some of their IP tech but , as you can also see…that isn’t stopping them. Their tech (& ours) is also covered under the Trade Secrets Act [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Trade_Secrets_Act ] in most localities , as are our IP holdings.
I think this is a good point to call our attention back to where the QMC TQD story all started…the Rice Smalley Institute (Home of Nanotech...the BuckyBall) & our Dr.Wong. Of all the institutions in the world concerned with Nanotech & the accompanying ethical public safety standards that should , & ‘do’ come along with it. Rice is not only the original ‘home’ of Nanotech but is also the primary ‘gatekeeper’ in the world for NanoSafety. As can be seen here , Rice is living-up to that challenge/responsibility & our Dr.Wong , creator of our patent pending “highly selective TQDots” is no-doubt , part of this assemblage , by virtue of his highly regarded stature within the Rice community alone. Of note; if nothing else the FDA approval this firm just received indicates that things are moving forward in commercializing the NanoTech sector. A good sign overall.
