Beginning September 19, Colorado.gov and the Denver Film Society will challenge filmmakers to share their personal “hometown” stories with a short film contest titled, “Colorado: Home is Where the Heart is.”

The contest, sponsored by the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA), Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media, the Colorado Tourism Office, and the Denver Film Society, runs through October 14 and calls for the submission of a five-minute short film about the filmmaker’s Colorado hometown.

The top three films will receive a public screening in the Colorado Filmmakers Showcase at the 34th Starz Denver Film Festival, November 2-13, 2011. In addition, the First Place winner will receive travel assistance and a full-access pass ($1,000 value) to the Festival and their film showcased on Colorado.gov, the official website for the State of Colorado.

“This contest is an opportunity for people to tell us their stories about the great places they grew up in Colorado,” said Denver Film Society Director, Britta Erickson. “Whether you left your heart in your Colorado hometown or still call our beautiful state home, we want people to grab their cameras and capture those stories on film.”

The contest is open to anyone 18 years or older (minors can participate but must have parental consent and an adult sponsor). All entries will be available for viewing and public voting on www.colorado.gov/HomeisWheretheHeartis beginning October 14. A jury of film industry professionals will select first, second and third place winners from 10 semifinalists as determined by public online voting. The top three will be announced October 27, 2011.

“We are delighted to team up with the Film Society and Colorado Tourism to help bring Colorado hometown stories to light,” said SIPA Executive Director, John Conley. “Colorado.gov, the official website for the State of Colorado, gets nearly half million visitors each month and it’s a great place to showcase local talent and filmmaking in our State.”

Entries must be in an AVI, DV, MOV, QT, MP4, MPG, 3GP, ASF or MMV format and con not exceed 200 MB in size. They can be submitted digitally online at www.colorado.gov/ColoradoHome A full list of rules and guidelines is available www.colorado.gov/HomeisWheretheHeartis.
