US-based company NuMobile says it aims to acquire a mobile money company in East Africa soon.
The company, together with greenfields partner Nova Energy, plans to acquire a mobile cash company in the region within the next 60 days. NuMobile is part of the NewMarket Technology’ s Greenfield Programme, which aims to accelerate the introduction of technology innovations into new markets. Nova is NuMobile’ s Greenfield Programme Partner in East Africa.
NewMarket Technology Chairman and founder Philip Verges did not name the mobile cash firm, but said it was currently generating revenue of around USD5 million a year. This, he said, would be a significant boost for the company, which specializes in smart phone and mobile computing applications. He said East Africa was possibly the most important mobile money market.
Mobile money is showing rapid growth, particularly in emerging markets. A new report by US-based microfinance policy and research centre, CGAP, said that the market for mobile money services in emerging markets is expected to surge to USD5 billion by next year. In countries like Kenya, mobile money transfers and data are likely to become top earners for mobile service providers as ARPU lags, say analysts.
NuMobile is building a portfolio of security and software solutions for the global mobile computing and smartphone market. Through a roll-up strategy, NuMobile plans to acquire and develop mobile computing solutions for a variety of applications, including mobile banking, for the global marketplace.
Nova Energy, soon to be renamed Savanna East Africa, has launched a strategy to pursue several business lines in the growing economy of East Africa, initially in Kenya. US-based company NuMobile says it aims to acquire a mobile money company in East Africa soon.
The company, together with greenfields partner Nova Energy, plans to acquire a mobile cash company in the region within the next 60 days. NuMobile is part of the NewMarket Technology’ s Greenfield Programme, which aims to accelerate the introduction of technology innovations into new markets. Nova is NuMobile’ s Greenfield Programme Partner in East Africa.
NewMarket Technology Chairman and founder Philip Verges did not name the mobile cash firm, but said it was currently generating revenue of around USD5 million a year. This, he said, would be a significant boost for the company, which specializes in smart phone and mobile computing applications. He said East Africa was possibly the most important mobile money market.
Mobile money is showing rapid growth, particularly in emerging markets. A new report by US-based microfinance policy and research centre, CGAP, said that the market for mobile money services in emerging markets is expected to surge to USD5 billion by next year. In countries like Kenya, mobile money transfers and data are likely to become top earners for mobile service providers as ARPU lags, say analysts.
NuMobile is building a portfolio of security and software solutions for the global mobile computing and smartphone market. Through a roll-up strategy, NuMobile plans to acquire and develop mobile computing solutions for a variety of applications, including mobile banking, for the global marketplace.
Nova Energy, soon to be renamed Savanna East Africa, has launched a strategy to pursue several business lines in the growing economy of East Africa, initially in Kenya. Nova has already begun several initiatives in the region to include initiatives in the Technology, Utility, Housing and Health products industries.
