iknowaguy -- yeah, but then again for how much of our history have we immediately been directly on path? -- we've stumbled around every which way along the way -- we're human, reality's messy -- concentrated wealth and power is nothing new here, nor its influences -- the contest between concentrated wealth/power and everyone else for a better deal between them mediated by how we govern ourselves, and thus to influence/control government and law, is built in -- nor are divisions and fractiousness among us anything new as all that gets played out as it has to be as time passes -- and it ain't just us, either -- in the broadest sense, such things, the ebb and flow of such things, are manifest throughout the fabric of the history of nations and peoples
(one) point being, there's no ultimate magic concept or idea or plan or invocation of empathy or common sense or purpose that can just be waved at history, at human and social reality, to make everything 'right', or for that matter to even abstractly define absolutely what that 'right' might be -- every bit of reality is, finally, particular, specific facts, competing interests, differing powers and capabilities, potentials made real or not, process not linear but dialectic -- we are who we are, we are where we are, and things are what they are because we have already made them so, knowingly or willingly or not, whether or not any of us much understand them as they are and are moving -- as is inherently, ontologically, our lot -- all any of us can do is to keep slogging on through, best always trying to learn more and understand better, and trying to do the right thing
