Why a Less Futuristic 'FutureGen' Coal Plant May Not Be Bad
http://news.sciencemag.org/scienceinsider/2010/08/why-a-less-futuristic-futurgen-c.html

I don't know the site above. In the 2nd part of the program mentioned here .. http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=64148729 .. they mentioned Futuregen and a new generation of nuclear reactors. For some balance there was one whose position was that all the money put toward efforts to keep the coal industry going, and to develop a new generation of nuclear, should be spent on renewables which were clean now. Also another who was iffy on the the clean coal efforts. In the end the position given by the program was that 'we are trying to keep all the options open' to minimize CO2 pollution.

There are many jobs in coal, with new mines opening worldwide, so i hope they do make good
progress on sequestration of CO2, because the mines are not going to go away for a long time.

It was a surprise to see see the Futuregen effort is with you now .. More FutureGen hearings planned before decision .. AP .. June 10, 2011

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.

The U.S. Department of Energy plans to conduct a second round of hearings next spring to gather feedback on
potential spots in Illinois to store carbon dioxide underground as part of its FutureGen clean-coal project.

Department of Energy engineer Cliff Whyte was in Jacksonville on Thursday for the last of three
hearings held in Illinois this week. He says a decision probably will be made in the fall of 2012.

The FutureGen Alliance is a group of coal companies and other firms trying
to develop the $1.3 billion project. The government has committed $1 billion.

The alliance would like to use a spot in Morgan County near Jacksonville to
store carbon dioxide removed from coal at a power plant in nearby Meredosia.

Other potential locations are near Taylorville and Tuscola.

"Moreover there are disturbing signs that energy companies and utilities are reneging on their public commitments to the development of carbon-capture and alternative energy technologies. The Bush administration's "marquee demonstration project," FutureGen, was scrapped this year after the coal industry refused to pay its share of the public-private "partnership"; similarly, most U.S. private-sector carbon-sequestration initiatives have recently been cancelled. In the United Kingdom, meanwhile, Shell has just pulled out of the world's largest wind-energy project, the London Array. Despite heroic levels of advertising, energy corporations, like pharmaceutical companies, prefer to overgraze the commons, while letting taxes, not profits, pay for whatever urgent, long-overdue research is actually undertaken." ..

A new photovoltaic park has opened in Les Mées, in the southern department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Spread across 36 acres, the park, built by Belgian firm Enfinity, joins several other plants built on the vast Puimichel plateau. By the end of 2011, solar panels will cover 200 hectares and produce around 100MW, making it the biggest solar array in France. Enfinity's €70m investment has included work to preserve the landscape with space for grazing and a system without a concrete foundation

Spread across 36 acres of the plateau of les Mees, the photovoltaic park can generate 18.2MW and an annual
supply of 26 million kWh that will supply electricity to some 8,000 families. Photograph: Boris Horvat/AFP/Getty Images

and posted before in reply, either posted poorly or something has gone missing since, so the repeat above.

The solar is a great picture, hope it lasts.
