Due diligence at its finest.

Let's take a look at brwtrpilot's discovery on 05/16/11 in a little more depth.

MMR Global released a press release on 05/02/11 announcing "that it is working with Alcatel-Lucent to integrate the MyMedicalRecords Personal Health Record with Alcatel-Lucent's TeleHealth Manager solution to simplify the collection and notification of vital health records."

On 05/03/11, both Alcatel-Lucent and UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) announced that they have signed an agreement to jointly develop a telemedicine platform and suite of applications that will enable patients to receive care even when they are far from doctors and hospitals.

The solution, expected to be ready for commercial launch in early 2013, will offer secure, real-time clinical encounters in a virtual “exam room” designed to fit the workflow of health care providers and the mobility of patients. Using a secure Web portal, patients will have access to both scheduled and emergency care from any location at any time through a variety of mobile devices using real-time video and audio communication among multiple participants in multiple locations. At the same time, the system will securely generate, retrieve and store patient data in a clinically relevant way.

Is timing a coincidence? You decide. I believe that brwtrpilot is absolutely correct. Alcatel-Lucent came to MMR Global to integrate their TeleHealth Manager with the MMR-branded Personal Health Record. "When seamlessly integrated with the MMR-branded Personal Health Record, medical history and alerts on blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and more can be shared among patients and health care professionals using smartphones, tablets and other web-connected devices."

This is definately worth noting - "We have decided to not just introduce new technology but to make sure it is vetted in the 'care process' practiced today." According to Ahuja, the plan is to have real UPMC trials with patient usage by end of this year. Alcatel-Lucent will also showcase the platform to other healthcare organizations and develop plans for other trials next year." This year being the end of 2011!

A brief description of UPMC - "UPMC is an $8 billion integrated global health enterprise headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Committed to developing and delivering Life Changing Medicine, it is of the leading health systems in the United States. UPMC operates 20 academic, community, and specialty hospitals and 400 outpatient sites, employs more than 2,700 physicians, and offers an array of rehabilitation, retirement, and long-term care facilities."

Next, let's take a look at the strategic alliance between Alcatel-Lucent and Hewlett Packard (HP) that was signed in 2009. They are in year three of a 10 year agreement. HP recently announced four telehealth strategic partnerships.

I believe brwtrpilot is correct. Our very own MMR Global is becoming an integral part of what is indeed the future of the most opportune investment segment today, specifically Health IT.
