HearltlandAmerica, FU!!! This is a tale of two companies.
In order to get some of things in life that I like I have to be thrifty in where I spend my money; we all know how tough things a are all over. So here we go; I needed a couple of pairs of new shoes. I belong to the Buyers Club of SportsMansGuide.com, I had bought a pair Gear Guide work boots, more like hiking boots with a steel toe, it was damn good price and I liked them so much I went back on line and bought a pair of their Guide Gear Steel Toe Athletic Oxfords.
These are the same as the boot style but more of a running shoe. These too were great; the first time I put them on I knew no breaking-in period was needed. I was quite happy. However, HeartlandAmerica sent me their latest catalog/magazine with a very good-looking pair of “Rotosole” Athletic shoes for under $25 with free shipping. I know mail order well enough to know that I should order a half-size larger, which I did and in a Medium width. When they showed up it was quite clear these shoes where at least a full size too small and nowhere near a medium in width.
I read over the return policy and even called them. I explained that I understand they want me to pay for the return, but that I thought it was out of line considering they didn't come close to delivering what was advertised, I couldn't even get my foot into the show! Long story short, after talking to very rude and non-caring so-called customer service dept I got the phone number to be removed from their mailing list and then went and I spent $14.40 to return the shoes for my $24.49 return minus the $2.99 processing fee (free shipping my azz). It was a matter of point and not the money.
I told you about the above to tell you this. The fourth time I put on Athletic Oxfords from SportsMansGuide.com the top eyelet popped out of the socket hole on one of the shoes. I called Customer Service and within a few minutes they had emailed me a call tag for the return so I did have to pay the delivery fee. Then they placed order an order for immediate shipping of a new pair. While on the phone with this extremely polite customer service worker I told her how much I was impressed with the shoes and that when I was done paying bills if I had enough left in the budget I would buy another pair if that size and color were still available.
She checked inventory and informed me that they only had four pair in black still available; and then she told this. She was going to send me a second pair that same day and that if the returned pair did not get returned she would bill me. However, if the returned pair showed up I could consider the second pair a gift for my problems. Now I realize that I spend couple thousand a year with these people (mostly ammo and gun cleaning supplies), but this is Great Customer Service!
HearlandAmerica could learn a thing or two from SportsMansgiude.com!
