I'm going to spend a few days in Montreal, and I'd like to know if there's any interesting children's clothing stores.
Go to St. Catherine and into the shopping mall (use entrance across the street from that wonderful restaurant, Alexandre et fils).
Go to 2nd Floor and into Mike's cigares shop. Tell the owner Mike Yamani
that I sent you and ask him for tips on where to shop.
While there, enjoy his great selection of tobacco! Then, be sure to have lunch and a libation at Alexandre et fils.
Montreal rocks!

Grand Prix's return 'wonderful', merchants say

Expect to reap sales of Champagne, cigars next June

By Jan Ravensbergen, The Gazette November 27, 2009

Arnaldo Alfonso Ibanez rolls Vasco Cigars during Grand Prix festivities on June 6, 2008, during the last Grand Prix in Montreal. Next year, Vasco Cigars expects to sell "thousands of cigars” ranging in price from $5 to $100 – many to Americans.
Photograph by: Dave Sidaway, Gazette file photoMONTREAL – The return of free-spending Grand Prix hoopla to Montreal next summer – and annually through 2014 – “is wonderful,” the manager of one of the hot spots every June race weekend declared with a broad grin Friday afternoon.

Mike Yamani spoke with a sparkle after Formula One’s return was made official.

On June race weekends, “the Champagne flows here like water – specially on the Sunday,” added Yamani, of Chez Alexandre on Peel. St., usually one of the hubs of the action.

“It will be very good. In three days, we will get $100,000 in extra revenue.”
For Raffi Kotchounian, owner of nearby Vasco Cigars on St. Catherine St. W., Grand Prix weekend means he’ll sell “thousands of cigars” ranging in price from $5 to $100 – many to Americans who flock into town and take advantage of their visit to purchase Cuban cigars prohibited south of the border.

“It’s a big week,” said Kotchounian, who also retails sells high-end accessories for men.

“They come in, and then they leave – they leave money for the government and everybody else.”

But F1 celebrants also bring plenty of spirit and celebration in addition to their spending money, said Lyz-Abel Geoffroy, a salesperson at the Bang-On boutique.

“Wow, that’s cool,” she responded when alerted to the long-awaited announcement.

“It brings a lot of life” to the city.

“I’m really happy about this – and it’s good for the stores,” the 22-year-old added.

The last time the race was in town, before a one-year hiatus, she added, “I was working at Urban Outfitters and there were lots of people coming in during the day, Americans and Europeans.”

“The sidewalks were full.

“It brings joy when there are lots of people.”
