Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ Update: She Is Talking, Singing In Therapy by Frances Martel | 9:43 am, March 5th, 2011
[20100428_zaf_b21_023.jpg] Somehow amidst a whirlwind news cycle of 2012 speculation and non-stop Charlie Sheen action, it has been around a month since the health status of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords made the news. The latest, while an incredibly short update from AP: the Congresswoman is now chatting with family and even singing as part of her therapy.
The update comes in the form of an update on her assailant, Jared Lee Loughner, who has finally received his full list of charges formally accusing him of the killing of six people– among them Giffords staffers, a federal judge, and a nine-year-old girl. In reporting the news of Loughner’s new 49-count indictment, the AP also notes that Giffords is recovering remarkably. “In recent days,” they note, “she has been talking and singing some of her favorite songs as part of her speech and musical therapy.” In the weeks following the shooting, doctors assured the media that, given their experience, Rep. Giffords appeared to be on the fast track to recovery. It seems they have delivered– though Giffords is not anywhere near out of the woods yet, her progress for someone injured so gravely is remarkable.
