Hired to be part of the senior leadership team to build the company from ground up and put the company on the map. Built a strong multi-skilled technical team, authored and implemented several internal processes and engineering standards. Met with executives, planners and local operational teams of the large wireless companies to design robust networks and implement cost effective solutions to meet their backhaul requirements.

Instrumental in effectively leasing software services for provisioning the network (as opposed to buying) and building a virtual Network Operating Center (NOC), saving the company over $1M in capital costs.

Key Accomplishments:

• Recruited and managed a team of 9 highly qualified Mapping Professionals, Optical, Microwave, IT and Systems Engineers.
• Selected fiber providers in each of the target markets – Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, S. Florida, Las Vegas and Tampa; designed fiber routes/rings, negotiated and signed multi-year contracts with 4 fiber providers to serve the initial 3 launch markets.
• Selected and approved two network architectures to meet the market based traffic demands.
• Prepared the company to meet the challenge of providing cost effective, robust Ethernet services to meet or exceed the service level agreements of the wireless provider’s 4G requirements. This resulted in Tower Cloud becoming certified by two large wireless companies to provide Ethernet Backhaul services.

Managed a team of sales engineers to provide complete technical support to the sales group including development of pre-sales engineering solutions and post sales network activation. Developed strategic network expansion plans to selected cable stations, data centers and major carrier hotels.

Department played a key role in driving broadband revenue growth of 15-20% per year while enhancing EBITDA and cash flow margins by providing customers creative network solutions combined with industry leading installation intervals and network reliability.

Key Achievements:

• Personally involved with all major customers in finalization of major sales. Significant focus on wireless service providers and international carriers. 12 net new wireless provider MSCs were added to the network.

Managed directly and indirectly staff of 28 personnel (Managers, Planners, Collocation Specialists and Engineers) accountable for all the front-end processes of network deployment such as market selection, route planning, cost estimation, vendor selection and generating purchase order requisitions. Developed processes to evaluate vendors, generate RFPs complete technical analysis of bid responses. Made all technology selection decisions (with input from operations), qualified vendors for lab evaluation and communicated network and roll out plans across the company.

Designed, engineered and directed implementation of network expansion solution resulting in Progress Telecom winning the “Preferred Provider” status from Telefonica for US backhaul of all Latin American traffic on their $1.7 billion undersea cable system. Developed strong customer relationships as lead technical contact for Telefonica which became Progress Telecom’s largest international customer.

• Managed annual capital budget of $75M to $100M.
• Completed Y2K upgrades without the involvement of consultants realizing a $3M to $5M savings.
• Negotiated with selected vendors to establish Master Vendor Agreements (MVAs) for procurement of fiber and electronics (SONET, DACS, Routers and Microwave systems.)
• Built state-of-the-art product testing and network simulation laboratory.
